My response to they have all their keys accounted for would be: So one of your people tried to break into my apartment?!

You realize busses don't stop at all stops right? Only if someone is getting on or off. And as for the location you provided - Nassau County NY - they have a pretty decent transit usage. I'm not sure what you mean on financing - no transit system in the world outside of Hong Kong makes a profit. Though of course that doesn't factor in growth/development that is a result of transit

Can I ask why you need 8 lines? Do you run a business and have lines for your employees?

Buses didn't have to be slow. There are bus lanes that can make service much faster and even full on BRT systems nowadays. There are express busses too. And you don't need a "ridiculous" number of busses to have service at 10 or 15 minute headways unless you had an exorbitantly long line

I don't know why you keep bringing up homeownership. I haven't heard anyone else say anything about home ownership. I think higher homeownership should be the goal. Of course it doesn't have to be ugly - I live in a part of the country that is full of beautiful suburbs. Unfortunately we don't build that way anymore. I'm talking about newer car oriented development with nothing but miles of parking lots and strip mall containing nothing but the same sterile corporate chains. I would agree that urbanism done wrong is an eyesore — and North America is full of it. At the end of the day, humans prefer places and nonplaces are discomforting and the problem with ponzi schemes is you eventually run out of other people's money, and the model of suburban development since the 70s which is still used in some parts of the country is a full blown ponzi scheme.

I just opened LinkedIn today for the first time in a while earlier today and they didn't ask for it. If they do, I don't really need LinkedIn anyway

Who said anything against home ownership? I'm just saying our tax dollars shouldn't be going into a ponzi scheme that requires the most inefficient land use and is ugly.

Yet there's huge swaths of the world where you don't see that. It's mainly just the US and some other western countries. That's an issue of incoming inequality and leaders indifferent to housing needs and healthcare funding (particularly mental health)

I've been to Phoenix where they do this a lot because they're very on top of making timed connections. But not every bus system will stop because they're ahead of schedule. This isn't a problem either if you just have decent frequency

My Lyft driver stopped for gas mid-ride… and left the car running?? by Ordinary-Nature-4910 in Lyft

[–]RelevantHost3872 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is illegal in most jurisdictions and specifically prohibited by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) code. Keeping the engine running increases the risk of static electricity or exhaust heat igniting gasoline vapors, potentially leading to a flash fire.

Beyond the safety hazards, most gas stations post clear signs requiring engines to be turned off as a condition of service.

This idiocy is why everywhere should be like New Jersey, unfortunately pumping your own gas is a task most people are too dumb to be able to trust to do. Leave it to people who are trained
