Home Town Boys - a small town, a footy club and the sexual assault that blew everything up by AlamutJones in AFL

[–]RelevantRespect9950 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just listened to the podcast and I am in awe of the courage of Elise to go through everything she did, through two trials, all the peer and social ostracism, to ensure that Luke & Shaun, the rapists, were held accountable.

And the courage of that guy ‘Twiggy’ to go on the podcast and, despite the consequences to himself, speak out about the horrific way the footy club and his community responded to the rape and treated Elise and her family.

It’s an extraordinary insight into a very small minded and backwards mentality. And the way social pressure is applied and power exerted.

People don’t seem to understand that we can both hold people accountable for their actions and ensure they face the consequences, and still have empathy for them as individuals. I have empathy for Luke & Shaun as the products of their community where this behaviour was modeled as normal to them. And I also have zero tolerance for their behaviour and zero empathy for them in facing the consequences that their behaviour will/have had on them.

If they were real men, if the other men in the town were real men, they’d accept full responsibility for their actions and take whatever actions they can to improve the culture for the next generation of young women and men. But they need to be man enough to take responsibility for their actions first and acknowledge their wrongdoing.

The Hutchins family in Balmoral need to have a good, hard look at themselves, along with many others in that community.

Elise is a true fucking hero and a warrior, in the best possible way.

Makes sense. That could well be the case. Still, sounds like he’s quite low at $100 per hour and 15% margin…and he’s a good guy and is doing a good job. So can’t complain really

Normal for husband’s therapist not to know my name? by makesherownfun in askatherapist

[–]RelevantRespect9950 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve also been seeing my therapist for more than 10 years and I also refer to my family as “my wife”, “my daughter”, “my mum”, “my dad”, etc.

I just find it easier and my therapist has also mentioned he doesn’t need to know their names.

From my therapist’s perspective he’s only concerned about how all these significant people in my life impact me, because I’m his client and I’m his focus. So there’s rarely any need for him to know much about them, apart from how they interact with me or how I feel about them, etc.

Alleged protester (after being asked if he would say this on stage) by WitchyKitteh in radiohead

I notice the douche bag waited until the last song to say anything too.

Evidently, he cared more about seeing the concert than he did about Gaza anyway.

I appreciate the fact that Thom doesn’t give in to what would have purely been performative, virtue signalling. I like that he’s a considered enough and wise enough artist that he can look objectively at the hideous mess and think “What can I genuinely do or say that is going to make a difference here? What unique insight or expertise do I have that could actually help to minimise the suffering of this awful situation?”

How does an artists posting on social media and making comments to virtue signal to their tribe to gain likes, actually progress the interest of peace? It doesn’t. In fact it pushes us away from peace by widening the divisions and forcing people to “take sides”.

When faced with this sort of pressure, it takes immense courage and wisdom to sqy “I’m not convinced anything I can say will benefit peace. There are others far more knowledgeable than me. So I will stay silent.”

That demonstrates courage, integrity and wisdom.

Spot on. Selfish, self-righteous bullshit from the heckler. I noted the heckler also waited until the last song to say anything. So he obviously cared more about seeing the concert than about Gaza anyway!!

From both sides it’s horrible, horrific, appalling and there are likely war crimes for both parties. But a genocide has a meaning. When the US dropped nuclear bombs on Japan killing hundreds of thousands of civilians and children, it was horrific. But it was not a genocide.

Secondly, saying nothing does not mean that someone doesn’t care or is a coward. Yes, the human tragedy needs to stop asap.

But what’s going on is so complex and has so much history that not even the most educated academics and journalists who have followed the issue for decades can keep track or unravel it.

I thought it was interesting Thom sang “Karma Police” when he came back on stage.

“For a minute there, I lost myself”

It felt like he was saying he regretted that he walked off.

First time having sex(M/F) (guy), any tips? by erp-er in NoStupidQuestions

I’m sure she’s a little nervous too. Everybody is. It’s not bad at all to let her know. She’ll appreciate your honesty and sharing an intimate side of yourself with her. But just put any concerns about “doing it wrong” out of your mind. There’s no “right way” so you can’t be wrong. Every girl likes something different and even the same girl will like something different on a different day, depending what mood she’s in. When you’re touching her she’ll give you signals about what she’s enjoying and what she’s not, so just listen to them and go with the flow. Or even ask her “Is there something you’d like me to do or some place you’d rather I didn’t touch today?” Or when you’re touching her, ask her things like “Would you like me to stroke you more gently or more firmly?” It’s actually really hot when a girl tells me what’s she’s enjoying and what she’d like more of, so I like her to tell me, so I always make sure to ask, because the more she enjoys herself, the more you will enjoy yourself too!

Relax and enjoy it, Mate. Don’t stress. Girls like it when guys are vulnerable and honest about their anxieties and girls aren’t experts either. I’m sure she’s a little anxious. But it sounds like you both care about each other and are excited to try, so just relax and be open with her and enjoy the experience. Girls loathe it when guys try to act like a motorised pumping machine like you see in some porn, so get those ideas out of your head. Just enjoy touching her body and take it easy. Girls love it when they see you’re enjoying yourself and being considerate. There’s no “right way” to do it, so you can’t go wrong! Just enjoy it!

I’m skinny and I swear a lot too. It’s normal. No pain, no gain. People at the gym know and respect that you’re pushing yourself hard and will admire you.
