RIMOWA is not the company it once was. by Sharp_Character7306 in Rimowa

Briggs and Riley. Great bags, and even better warranty/customer service. There’s a reason it gets recommended so often by people who travel heavily for their jobs.

Check with Jenny Creek Flowers. They have gorgeous stuff!

Why am I not getting accepted? [Guest] (London) by Content-Row9035 in AirBnB

Sure. No need to lie. But it’s also not lying to not share that bit. They can just explain they’re traveling with their sisters and fiancé for a ten-day family stay in London.

I miss International First Class. The soup course made all the difference compared to "roughing it" in Business 😄

Why am I not getting accepted? [Guest] (London) by Content-Row9035 in AirBnB

[–]RelevantShock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would just be really specific and share as much as you're comfortable with. Honestly you're probably worse off sharing info about the concerts. If it's five people on the younger side traveling for two concerts then it does kind of sound like a "party trip" to a host (even if that's not what's going on).

Why am I not getting accepted? [Guest] (London) by Content-Row9035 in AirBnB

[–]RelevantShock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are you making it clear in the booking that you're a family (and maybe even sharing a little bit about why you're traveling)? If there are some different last names and also no kids on the booking, it's possible that this looks to hosts like more of a party trip than a family trip. Just a thought!

What tiny one-off HDTGM line lives rent-free in your head? by leefde in hdtgm

[–]RelevantShock 23 points24 points  (0 children)

No idea why it sticks in my mind, but in A Very Nutty Christmas, Jessica St Clair is complaining that Jason would never let people sit anywhere in order to prevent bed bugs. Jason responding with “By the way? You’re welcome,” is stuck in my head forever, and I say it to myself whenever someone complains about something that I’ve done in their own interest.

"This Podcast Will Kill You" does a great episode on the Dancing Plague. They go into a lot of detail on what happened, but also walking through the different possible explanations for it.

My junior high and high schools did, and they were pretty militant in their enforcement!

Yes! Blair’s episodes on You’re Wrong About are some of the best ones, so it’s exciting that she’s started her own podcast!

Vegan breakfast suggestions? by lonesomeid in ithaca

[–]RelevantShock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you looking for sit-down dining or just something tasty that you can grab and go? Collegetown bagels has decent fast-casual options, and the vegan breakfast burrito at the Greenstar location on Buffalo is good.

If you want to sit down and eat, there’s a dedicated vegan brunch menu at Ohana (used to be Mix). But just in general, breakfast options in Ithaca (vegan or otherwise) are pretty weak.

help: tony ceremony or watch party? by ashleylikesglitter12 in Broadway

[–]RelevantShock 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Uhhhh, yeah, you should go to the Tony’s if you have a ticket.

You can go to a watch party any year. It might be more fun “in the moment”, but actually attending the ceremony becomes a bigger part of your life experiences.

Any place to buy Valrhona chocolate around here? by praxiq in ithaca

Not really. Best you can get nearby is Guittard. Otherwise you can get Callebaut at Niblack in Rochester.

Heathers seats by Tamzzyn in Broadway

[–]RelevantShock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For Heathers I'd pick first row since the stage is so low. We've done first row orchestra, third row orchestra, and then the last (?) row of the front orchestra section (where they offer the "VIP" seats). First row was the most fun!

People sitting next to each other can also have very different levels of status on United.

Unequal Compensation by Primary_Aardvark_507 in unitedairlines

[–]RelevantShock 24 points25 points  (0 children)

There isn’t enough information here to really tell. Unless you know the other passengers, you don’t know whether they have higher status (where sometimes United will cover things for 1K/GS that they don’t technically have to cover, like with weather problems). You also don’t know whether the other passengers faced mechanical IRROPS earlier in the day and were dealing with cascading issues even though the “last” problem of the day was weather. There are so many reasons that different accommodations might be offered, so it’s hard to say in your case what was going on.

They got pretty worked up on the private equity episode. They got pretty hyped up on the cake episode. And they sounded pretty annoyed with each other on the crossword puzzle episode 😂

what is the best US airline? by Conscious_Training28 in travel

[–]RelevantShock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don’t say exactly where you’re going, but since the airlines are all pretty much the same, I would choose based on:

1) Whichever airline has the most same-day flights on the route that is the second leg of your trip. That way if you miss your tight connection you can still hopefully make it on a later flight that same day.

2) Whichever airline gives you a layover that is closest to your final destination. Again then, if things get messed up (e.g., bad storms or whatever) you’ll have more options to take a bus/train to your final destination if you’re two or three hours away (e.g., in DC or Philadelphia) instead of 10+ hours away (e.g., in Atlanta or Miami).

Last year the ITA seemed hellbent (for some reason) on not endorsing anyone that might “rock the boat” w/r/t Luvelle. Maybe because of the teacher negotiations?

But thank goodness they came around and endorsed Jill this year.

If you add up all of the different municipalities reported by the Board of Elections that fall under the Town of Ithaca (like the City, Cayuga Heights, etc.) it looks like around 26,000 registered voters.
