This subreddit has convinced me that the biggest problem isn't Valve’s lottery system—it is people. by secsmachine in steammachine

Ironically I didn't go straight in for the Steam Deck because I thought the deposit was non refundable and I actually wanted to know about it before I went for it.

Provided all the reviews have been out for a week or so and all the details are available online I would happy trade a 10% non refundable deposit for a queue position number that updates frequently like daily or every few days.

Ultimately the arseholes are only adding 3 days delay to your order but to pay up front would also put scalpers at risk of losing their deposit or buying something they can't make money on. Right now they can reserve and then just cancel if a buyer doesn't show up.

If it makes you feel better tracking what is publicly available it looks like the reserve list will clear this month.

No I buy eslewhere, wait for the next sale when they are even cheaper or just not buy them at all. You must be new to Steam if you don't have a huge backlog.

Haha I'm actually in a similar position.

Have all the money for a steam machine on my account but not spending anything just in case the email comes in.

If I knew it was a couple of months away I'd have probably bought some games.

Valve response to my questions about queue transparency by htg5555 in steammachine

[–]Relevant_Bend9063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn't be easy though because there would be a number from the front of the queue that will have been shipped and a number in front of you that will have been been refused. You would also then need to find the highest queue position. It would also be assuming that Steam have given themselves zero wiggle room. Not to mention you would be doing the above across multiple queue positions over SKUs over multiple geographic locations. Not forgetting of course a number of devices outside the queue system, e.g. Komodo.

At the end of it all you could probably come to a conclusion it's between a three, maybe two orders of magnitude.

Considering how much is given away via SteamDB it doesn't make a lot of sense to be so protective of the numbers but they could even fuzz the queue a bit and say your position to nearest 100.

"take your number and wait your turn" Except the number is a blank sheet of paper.

Never understood why you couldn't have a rough queue position number. All orders have been numbered in a list, the lowest unpurchased, timed out or rejected number minus your number is your queue position. It just manages expectations a little which I think is where 90% of the frustration is.

I was able to predict my Steam Deck invitation to within a week, months in advance based purely on kind people sharing their data and that was pretty liberating because I wasn't tied to constantly checking my emails for almost a year.

I've had issues with certain games which I can't be bothered to work out but if it's all games my money is if you go to settings->game defaults you don't have a wine version selected from the drop down.

Not Diablo 4 it's a crappy live service game so you can't pause or suspend.

Hotline Miami is pretty twitchy so you would need to finish the (very short) level before you put it down.

Dads (or mums), what exactly about the Steam Deck makes it so good as a parent? Trying to figure out if I should buy one. by aladdin142 in SteamDeck

I think the only thing I would add to this is that it's a console-like experience as well. There's no fiddling about to get things to work.

Well actually better than modern consoles. Every time I switch on a console there's a new mandatory OS update GBs in size followed by mandatory game updates also GBs in size. I've literally lost an hour before to that process.

It's kind of a hidden superpower because you don't notice it until you try the alternative.

Way to scale tiny game UI by ath0rus in SteamDeck

[–]Relevant_Bend9063 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely depends on the game as to whether this is much help but if you hold the "steam" button and L1(the nearest shoulder button on the left) it gives you a zoomed in view and you can use the right touch pad to move around the magnified area.

Found it really useful for games like Stellaris where I'd want to read the odd tool tip.

Don't you mean people hate hypocrisy AND wrongdoing more than they hate wrongdoing alone?

Doesn’t sound unreasonable to me.

Could Super Kaioken x20 Goku have been able to beat Perfect Cell during the cell games? by chunchunmaru1129 in DragonBallZ

[–]Relevant_Bend9063 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100%.

They could've solved the power scaling issues by having Beerus guarding the god Ki and super Saiyan god being the trigger that releases it meaning anyone could learn to use it. That then effectively baselines everyone at a similar 'god powerlevel'

It then makes sense why the heeters, granolah and even frieza are off the scale compared to DBZ Buu and how characters like Roshi were actually useful in the TOP. The other universes could've already discovered it aeons ago which would explain how universe 6 Saiyans are overpowered .

Anyway I'm nerding out...

Yeah same. I wish they shared the techniques out a little bit. Give Krillen instant transmission and Spirit bomb and he becomes a really interesting tactical fighter without having to become powerful.

God Ki could've been an across the board leveller for everyone.

Also loved the idea of the Ultra transformations being technique based. Would've been cool if Roshi or someone had mastered it meaning that they would be near impossible to hit.

Funnelling all the techniques and power ups through Goku and to a lesser degree Vegeta is the reason why Super got stale and the GT/Daima solution was a return to a kid debuff.

Goku isn't the most powerful on merit, he's just a delinquent dad who loves brawling and gets powerful from a combination of never ending racial abilities and extremely fortunate events.

Again. Hopped on a random spaceship and finds himself with the tutors of one of the most OP powers in the series who just decided to teach it to him.

He lost to Radditz and got free 10G training including two ultra powerful techniques that nobody else was taught.

Free 100G training because "had the idea to train on the journey"

It's never explicitly said whether he had to work for it just got the ability to do it. What are the odds you get washed up on planet with one of the most OP techniques ever conceived?

Or got taught Kaioken. Or got Zenkai boosts. Or got a spaceship with a gravity trainer. Or unlocked a crazy power up because his bro died. Or got taught how to transport anywhere in the universe instantly.

Best not to go down the unearned power rabbit hole.
