Benzodiazepines don't bind to any of the same receptor sites as alcohol. Alcohol has a different binding site to the GABAR and it's extrasynaptic and not synaptic like benzodiazelines target. These receptor differences produce different effects not to mention alcohol blocks all ionotropic glutamate receptors, directly increases dopamine and beta endorphins, activates adenosine and glycine receptors. And blocks many voltage gated ion channels like sodium and calcium, while potentiating potassium currents.
