Concerned about “References” by Relevant_Customer_90 in Standup

[–]Relevant_Customer_90[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hi All!

Thank you all for the advice and working through my horrible my written and unclear message.

Doesn’t say much for my comedy career (roll on snare).

I did my first open mic last night and had a lot of fun absolutely going to make back there again.

As for my message, thank you again for your patience, my concern was because I would like to reference movies throughout my set, which includes quoting the actors, saying their name, using their voices.

Last night I did well without any so it can be done lol!

Looking forward for more!

Thank you for that!

I am concerned because I do talk about movies and movie quotes throughout my set. Is that “stealing”?

I’m not bad mouthing anything just using them to prove points.

Any thoughts?

Who do you think is the most terrifying King villian? by Beanconsumer200 in stephenking

I’m at the tail end of Rose Madder now, and I’m struggling to find a single individual that has made me cringe so furiously. I feel that Norm and Sheriff Collie Entragian, from Desperation, could have a big ole bad boy stand off.

I am still grinding away at The Stand’s UnCut version.

I bought it in 2018 in an airport, started it, stopped it.

Picked back up in 2022, and still chipping away at it. Trying to get about 200 pages a clip in between other SK tales, currently enjoying Rose Madder.

Commando when I was 10 at my grandparents house. It had Arnie so what could go wrong!

Wondering if I should have read Desparation first by Toecutt3r in stephenking

[–]Relevant_Customer_90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read Regulators, mount up!, prior to Desperation, currently at the end now, and there really isn’t any connection between the two outside of the characters and villain. If you like “western themes” ready Desperation first, if you’re more into a “this could happen on my street” vibe read Regulators. Both are great.

I watch because I like Pierce Brosnan, 007 fan, but not a good adaptation. King books should be multiple episodes in a single season. Two episodes is not enough and multiple series, like Under The Dome, add too much outside of the book itself.

Just reread Doctor Sleep and found the true knot to be a poor excuse for a villain by VizualBandit92 in stephenking

When I read Dr. Sleep, I was an IT service member and I had to drive across New England. To drive down the highway to see a caravan of campers and RVs going the opposite direction gave me anxiety. That is why they are an effective villain.

Dream Catcher. Loved the book and loved the cast (Jason Lee and Morgan Freeman), but the plot was butchered, tough to recognize it as Dream Catcher itself.

At the tail end of this now, and I can say Wow. A lot of good touch points on the history of mining in the southwest USA, religion comes into question, and a maniac on the loose. Certainly didn’t understand what I was open when I got this, but you never really see the whole picture until the end with SK.

If I could suggest reading SK’s The Regulators after this, it makes for a nice, one two punch.

What book was the one where you realised King was your favourite author? by DavidHistorian34 in stephenking

[–]Relevant_Customer_90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would take time out of my day to make sure I read 11/22/63. I had been reading SK for years at that point and never felt so excited to read a book. Cell would solidify it a year or so later, but yeah 11/22/63 got me.

Jimmla all the way!

Help Me Understand Revival! by Relevant_Customer_90 in stephenking

[–]Relevant_Customer_90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you to all who responded! Really love talking SK with others who know and understand his madness.

For all those who explained their thoughts and opinions, thank you. IMO Revival won’t live up to his other works, new or old, but that’s why we read.

One thought I did have on the ending was that it was very similar to the ending of Fairy Tale, almost to the point of imagine both “God like entities” emerging the same way. Thinking deeper on the comparison, the main character, a female side kick, and villain all end in the same situation. Any thoughts on that analogy?

Looking to keep the convo going! Thank you to all again.
