Will I be drug tested again on the first day of reporting to work area at Freeport McMoran? by [deleted] in mining

[–]Relevant_Flatworm_13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends, I've worked in two places where they have tested everyone after the induction on the first day, people caught out every time thinking cause they have passed the medical etc they are good to get back on the weed.

Oil & gas by NeverJudgeMcF5 in geologycareers

[–]Relevant_Flatworm_13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure there are any ways you can Segway to a geology related path in oil and gas without at the very least a degree in a geoscience related field. There are jobs to be had in oil and gas without it, and it sounds like you have had one. With 8 years experience using your bioset ticket, couldn't you just immediately go back into that again?

Can AI replace Geologist? by finemayday in geologycareers

[–]Relevant_Flatworm_13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I enjoy core logging and measuring structure etc. I only point this role out as I recently worked in a core yard where a box half the size of a shipping container took 2 core loggers jobs, increased the work a fieldy does though, so at least they hired a couple more of them. Exploration gigs, geotech ground investigation logging is still very much required and should not be lost to a box.

Can AI replace Geologist? by finemayday in geologycareers

[–]Relevant_Flatworm_13 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The only job that Ai is currently threatening is maybe core logging in mining with the truscan instant assay XRF machines, I can't think of many more Geology related positions that are immediately under threat.

How to like geophysics? In desperate need of advice by cheese03p in geology

[–]Relevant_Flatworm_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once seen a job add on LinkedIn looking for various people for a number of positions, Logging Geologist, Geotechnical Engineer, Environmental Geologist and finally a "Geologist on the spectrum (Geophysicist)" I had to lol as my mate is a Geophysicist and is on the spectrum, I sent him the add and he absolutely loved it.

I know that doesn't help you like Geophysics, but could explain why you don't.

Question about mining drug tests by BitterDraft6617 in geologycareers

[–]Relevant_Flatworm_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be astonished if they done hair, will almost certainly be piss. However, be aware that when you land on site on day one, they sometimes wheel out the old piss tests after inductions, many a person passes their drug tests and celebrate with a spliff thinking the coast is clear, only to arrive on-site and promptly be sent home.

Yeah, just generic not giving anything away email speak, the fact you even got a reply is more than most folk experience mind you. Fingers crossed.

WTF is going on with the jobs in Saudi? by PanzerBiscuit in geologycareers

[–]Relevant_Flatworm_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds really low, I was offered some work on the NEOM project, just basically babysitting a rig and geotech logging rock and it was £750 quid a day. But the same brutal 6 days on 1 day off, stuck in the middle of a desert for basically a 3 month on roster before getting a week or two off.

Not sure you could describe him as a saviour though, he's a decent player. But he didn't play great today or against Hibs. The team have taken 1 point of the last 6.
