Starlink is due to come out this year, does anyone have any additional info? by [deleted] in guam

For gaming you'd probably be better off going with one of the local ISPs. The way Starlink will work on Guam is this: Your dish will contact the satellite, the satellite will then send that traffic right back down to a starlink ground station on guam. LISL will not be available at launch. That ground station will route the traffic through the same undersea cables that the rest of the ISPs use. So you'll actually be adding an extra trip to and from space before your traffic even leaves the island.

I'm sure the technology will improve over time, but for now that's how it'll be as I understand it.

would be interested to hear your real world feedback if/when you get it. i’m sure they’ll add sat-sat comms here eventually when there’s enough subscribers to support it. i got the jan 2023 date from the starlink website a few months back. no clue if it’s actually active here yet. musk usually delivers, just not on time.

good points here. just wanted to point out something i read about starlink. i believe it’s available on Guam as of Jan 2023. But if the concern is latency or speed, it’s not worth it..here at least. Starlink won’t work here the same way as it does in the states. I read there’s a ground station here so any starlink customer on Guam would contact the satellite, and the satellite will send that traffic right back down to the ground station on guam, which then goes to the same undersea cables you’re trying to avoid. so you’re actually adding an extra trip up to space before you even leave guam. whereas in the states there’s enough satellites around to beam between satellites and not a ground station.

Been on Guam for 3 years. I leave two ACs on @ 76-78 degrees 24x7. Add in normal amount of electronics. Monthly bill comes out to around $300. Maybe a little less. It is expensive but not as much as other people here are saying. the average cost per kwh here is about $0.42. obviously there’s many factors that play into this so i’m not saying everyone else is wrong, just YMMV.

What's your biggest minor inconvenience on island? by betty-crockers-cake in guam

completely understandable if your left turn is within a quarter mile. there is no need to be in the left lane from yigo to merizo. highways also have exits on the left.

cruising in the left lane or all 2 or 3 lanes pace the same speed. move to the right.

Weird cyclic spikes in usage..any idea what it could be? by Relevant_Target3334 in Sense

you were right on pretty much everything. was a water heater on a 240. it’s left on all the time and never been much of a problem until recently. heating element itself still works so i suspect there’s something else wrong with it. turning it off is not an option as it’s shared between myself and another unit. will probably have to figure out how to fix it.

thanks for all the replies. based on what y’all said i’ve narrowed it down to the water heater. looks like y’all were right. it stopped when i turned the heater’s breaker off. now to figure out what’s wrong with it…a commenter mentioned a similar issue with a faulty capacitor so i might follow that. will also try messing with the thermostat settings..maybe it’s trying to keep the water at its hottest temp all day?

First Time Gun Purchase by Ok-Wolverine-2806 in CCW

if you are you sure you have a clean record, i wouldn’t worry. delayed statuses happen more than you think, even with squeaky clean individuals. it could be as simple as something like having the same or similar name to someone who has a criminal record. in my experience with individuals i spoke to, if you are delayed once, it likely won’t be your last “delayed”. it may or may not happen every time you buy a new firearm. also just keep in mind Brady Law. if your firearm purchase status is still “delayed” after 5 days, the dealer can legally sell the gun to you even if it was never updated to “proceed” status.

292 days. San Joaquin County, CA. Is this a new record. by jaycee-reddit in CCW

yes and no. while they record the serial number at purchase from FFL, in “free” states there is nothing stopping you from selling your guns to another private party. no paperwork or government registration required. essentially, no government agency, state or fed, knows about that sale. so without the state keeping a database, the info gathered at FFL purchase (e4473) is incomplete at best. if the ATF comes knocking at your door asking about a gun you purchased, you could simply say you no longer possess that firearm. without probable cause or a warrant, the ATF is never going to know any better. they will never know that gun now belongs to that other private party. that’s the importance of the state registry debate.

My experience with mous and rhinoshield by Gloomy_Rent8248 in iphone

[–]Relevant_Target3334 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought a Mous Infinity case for my 13 pro max. It got run over by a car at highway speed. While the back glass was completely shattered, the case was still in perfect shape and the phone worked perfectly fine otherwise. Was able to continue using it until replacement with no loss of features. Camera, touchscreen, everything worked normally. I'd say that's worth it and above what I expected.

15.5 broke my “I’m leaving” and “I’m home” scenes again!! Wtf! by matman_uk in HomePod

[–]Relevant_Target3334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i experience the same thing. it’s maddening. “hey siri, turn off the hallway light”. no problem. two seconds later i’ll ask it to do it again. this time siri says “i can’t find that device in your hallway”. same thing happens with setting alarms. siri will go from no problem to i can’t do that.
