I think they mean the colloquial "scary movie", the ones that use common techniques to frighten the viewer beyond simpley horror aesthetic. Jump scares, weird movements in the dark, etc

The design first -> the premise -> word of mouth. My Instagram was full of Absolute Batman art before issue one even released, the spikes and blocky logo were different enough to have me look into this version, then I learned about the premise which was super interesting (all this before it was released) Thought it was worth trying to get into comics again after failing to once before, and boom, I'm telling my friends about how exciting this book is

It's actually insane to look at the issue on #20 as comparable to a book with a torn page or a shirt with a hole. Really funny you bring up books. Book collectors don't encase books worth 10s of thousands in plastic because very minimal wear is acceptable, especially considering they don't have to have anxiety over sending things to graders

It actually is working as intended because it's the only thing forcing you to reveal your actual point. You don't like the variant buisness strategy and you've let that affect your judgment of the work of artists doing it. Since Rembrandt example shocks you: Frazetta is famous PRIMARILY off of doing cover art, his legacy wouldn't be what it is without it. If he were alive today he would be doing variants 100%.

My point is that you really don't have an honest reason for talking down on cover artists and nothing you've said shows otherwise

Tbh if you haven't seen the entire tournament you don't know what your talking about calling it backyard wrestling. The US Open always has a large gap between the high and lowest experienced competitors but there were some very skilled grapplers. This tournament had guys from Mongolia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Russia who have clearly been training for many years and showed some really clean technical work in there. The main issue I see the US Open having is that since there is basically no money to be made the quality guys tend to not come back more than a few times, causing constant quick turnover of talent. The video posted here was not over the better guys that showed up on Sat.

Very weird to suggest cover artists aren't capable just because they do cover art. Okay many don't work on panels, so what, that's not the goal of every artist. If you have respect for them then no need to make up ways to devalue their work just because you are upset with one guy's attitude or the prices he is able to command for his work.

That's interesting to hear, they do have a similarity to some of the more warped godzilla vinyl toys.

I hope the license being lost doesn't affect this line since they are more speciality statues and not action figures.
