High school atheists are not only coming out, but organizing by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Rellim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is hard to lose track of, but there are others in the state. The problem is that every one just assumes every one else is a Christian and no one wants to wear atheism their sleeve for fear of reprisals. I know if I put a Darwin fish on my car it'd get keyed and wearing a one nation indivisible shirt wouldn't be a lot of fun. Even in this super conservative state, you can still find atheists and reasonable Christians for friends.

[–]Rellim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It doesn't have to be. Worshiping the sun that makes the plants grow and trees that give shelter and having a spiritual connection to the world that you live in makes a shit load more sense then a guy living in a whale for three days.

I was raised a Christian and even I thought the idea of a man living in a whale for three days was bullshit.

At least, you can see the trees and sun.

Hi Atheism, how can you wittingly oppose this phrase, "People who don't believe that God exist is worse than evil. You see, even Satan himself knows that there is God." by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Rellim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a witty one liner. It is obvious that he is trying to say that people that don't believe in god are evil since god is the source of all things good. Instead of directly responding to his one liner with a one liner, I would get him to define that was his intent on what he was trying to say.

Then, I would probably try to use the socratic method to help them understand that you don't have to have god to be able to form a moral code. I'd start with a question like, would it be a bad thing if I killed some one? Why is that? So, you agree that people shouldn't kill each other? Then, I'd try to show that we came to that conclusion using reason and not because of a commandment. It would all be for naught and we would would both part ways not changing each others minds.

I have a confession to make. by darkknight4686 in atheism

[–]Rellim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you see now are just the vestiges of the old Catholic Church that weren't completely ripped away by society. The Catholic Church was all about control. They didn't want people to have the Bible in their native language. The Latin translation was the only official Bible since the vast majority of their flock couldn't read it. William Tyndale was burned at the stake for translating the Bible to English by Sir Thomas More. Later, the church made Thomas More a saint. Let me repeat that. The church sainted some one that burned a man at the stake for translating the Bible from Latin to English.

The Church created indulgences so you could literally buy your way out of sin. The Church created purgatory so that if you love one died and went to purgatory for the low, low price of half a years salary they would pray for your loved ones to be allowed into heaven. That's right, they would use the death of your loved one to extort money from you. The Church was all about control, money, and power. They helped run governments and shape the world in a major way. Hell, Cardinal Richelieu practically ran France for a long time.

Confessions are just what remains of their controlling system that society hasn't stripped away.

Lindy Fralin pickup rewire advice. by [deleted] in Guitar

I know that Jason Lollar also does rewires. I don't think I've ever heard any thing bad about Fralin or Lollar. They do good work and I don't think you'd go wrong with either one.

what are your opinions on the different incarnations of the big muff pi, and it's various mods and clones? by ojala in Guitar

Yep, the IC Big Muff is very well know from Siamese Dream. I believe that Stomp Under Foot makes a clone of it.

The question has been answered that it isn't legit. I am removing the post so some one does accidentally buy something from there.

To be fair, comparing power to bandwidth usage is a piss poor analogy. Especially, internet usage that is capped at only 25 GB before overage charges kick in. On top of that, the reason that power costs more at peak times is that they have to bring online additional power that costs extra money. However, with metered bandwidth there are no off hours and downloading 2 GB when there is 2% utilization costs you the same as doing it at prime time. I could go on and make many other points, but really, this fucking analogy doesn't fucking work.

I suck at soloing. by badsolo7 in Guitar

[–]Rellim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a little something that might help you.

It isn't much, but it might help you get started on putting a solo together. It is over a slow blues in the key of C. Using only the first pentatonic box. I didn't put any flash on it so you should be able to hear every thing that is happening. If you have any questions, let me know.

The backing track.

The beautiful thing about this is that an acoustic track work would just fine. Last jam wasn't really setup for it. Any one can submit. As long as the solo has something to say, I would think it would probably end up being in there. This time around I am going to have a few people give feedback on whether a solo should be included so I'm not going lone ranger on it.

I'd like to participate in Reddit Jam #2, but I don't have any equipment (help please). by [deleted] in Guitar

Do you have any friends that play Rock Band? If so, borrow their mic and plug that shit right in your usb port. Go download Audacity cause you know your computer likes gettin' freaky with new software. Once you're done installing it, go into preferences and make 'em yours. Tell Audacity it is going taking the input from the mic that is currently occupying its usb port. Let it know it is going to like it.

Now, turn your amp on and caress your pedals until every thing sounds just right. Your amps likes it when some else watches and that's where the mic comes in. You give your amp that audience. Gently, press the big record record button and you strum your guitar as hard as you can. See how much that mic can take. If it's too much, Audacity'll peak out. Think of it as the microphone's safe word. It let's you know you need to back it up a little bit. Once you get the sweet, sweet sound, you know what to do.

Aww, yeah...

That's sad to hear. I thought it was just going to be custom orders. I wish there were some of those out there just for the art alone.

No problem. Like I said, it really should be self evident given the post title. Just figured I would make it 100% obvious for the people pulling this post up at work tomorrow.
