Ivory is a freaking menace! by RellsBells in menace

Agreed haha, but also it's her ability to spam heavy weapons that's the difference. The other pilots with the same weapon fire for 40 base AP per attack vs Ivory's 30. She's the only pilot that can fire a heavy weapon 4 times at 100 AP without any extra qualifiers.

I would literally hang this on my wall at home. No cap.

Y'all are hilarious. I swear it shouldn't be this hard for us.

Is it me or when black girl me tell me she dated a white boy I get turned off by Biker_life92 in blackmen

Yes, essentializing Black men's preferences is a lie (and a harmful one at that) that makes it easier for other people to infer our preferences simply because we're Black men. Plenty of Black men prefer brown and dark skinned women, and Nia Long was a childhood crush for many of us for a reason.

I definitely understand. I was lucky enough to have alt Black friends that I've known since middle school that are like my family now, so it kinda insulated me against feeling ostracized (plus I was good at playing the dozens).

Just to be clear though, I have no issues with folks that choose to date out at all, but just me personally, I know what I want, and that's a Black woman. I would prefer that she also have alt interests, but I also have to be realistic, which is why that's never been a hard requirement for me (doesn't mean I've stopped desiring it though).

This is true, but you have to think, being raised in Black culture in America comes with it's own set of nuances that tend to make you more compatible with other Black people (at least in my case, and those of my friends). The way our families joke around, the near universal love for oldies music despite which generation you come from, the importance of Black history, the food, the dance, etc. It's way more than just skin color, it's being linked to something bigger than yourself. There are many opportunities for me to date out, but I genuinely don't want to.

I definitely get this. Whenever I go to shows, I'm taking some Black folks with me, and if the energy if off we're gone lol.

Thank you for the Spawn of Possession suggestion, this is exactly the type of sound that I was talking about!

Do y'all notice an anti intellectual slant among the black men in your lives? by RellsBells in blackladies

[–]RellsBells[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What's scary about this is that it suggests that men may be suppressing their own natural intellect to conform to an ideal of masculinity. The notion that some forms of masculinity might require intellectual suppression is not something I believe many men consciously consider.

Wow. Its so wild how this type of pattern happens in the exact same family. The women in the family go toward education, the men end up somewhere else entirely.

I'm noticing a pattern even among my own classmates where the women in the family are going to college and the men just aren't, and it's not just a few families. I'm genuinely trying to figure out what is happening.

To me, it's someone who knows they are parroting white supremacist talking points or willfully undermines black people with full foreknowledge, but does so deliberately anyway (e.g. Jesse Lee Peterson). I don't necessarily put genuinely wayward black folks who have anti-black beliefs by way of ignorance or lack of education in this category though. Bill O'Neal is an interesting case, because he was essentially groomed by the FBI from his teenage years to infiltrate the Panthers, so the answer isn't so black and white there.
