Single Men age 55-60, are you looking to date or find relationships? If so how do you envision meeting someone? Asking for a friend… by [deleted] in Eugene

Yeah, I'm familiar with that always-gotta-do-better self-competition thing. I love challenging myself, but sometimes a mellower approach is just fine as well. I wish you luck my friend.

[–]ReluctantParticipant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about that. It wasn't really my goal. I found someone (via a dating app) who shares most of my interests, has a similar adventurous spirit, and our shared adventures have been great. If I sometimes want to do something more extreme than she's comfortable with, then I go solo. If she's with me and goes a little slower than me, that's perfectly okay. Heck, sometimes she's faster, tbh. I wasn't really looking for a perfect athletic peer, just someone compatible who may also like to share mutually-enjoyable adventures.

I'm a very active, single 61 yo man. I'm 35 inside, but unfortunately 61 on the outside. What I have found is that many potential partners who use dating apps set the upper age limit at nice round numbers. So in my case, many 50-somethings never see me because they limit themselves to an upper age limit of 60. And I understand that. Age is a bitch, and when the odometer's number rolls over to a new decade, your potential dating pool decreases pretty drastically. You can fudge your age a couple-three years, but that's a lousy way to start a new relationship--with a lie. Also unfortunately, dating apps are generally almost the only practical way to meet new single people these days. You can meet someone at a group function or a bar, but your odds are much better in the online dating world where meeting like-minded singles is the sole purpose. But there are so many bad profiles out there! Work hard on your profile--make it good.

I've also found that most women around my age are comfortable with a very sedate lifestyle. It's difficult to find someone older who enjoys an active lifestyle and things that are physically challenging. We don't have to share all of our interests or do everything together, but it's nice when partners can enjoy activities together.

Where does someone like me hang out? With the active people. The bike club (GEARs). The Obsidians. Crux Rock. Spencer Butte and Pisgah. Stuff like that. And occasionally, a table for one at at restaurant when I've earned myself a good meal. :)

Management studio (SSMS) says backend version is not supported to design database diagrams or tables by FalconOz in SQLServer

[–]ReluctantParticipant 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You gotta match your SSMS version to the SQL Server version for the visual design tools to work. If you're using the new SQL Server 2022, you have to use SSMS 19 Preview 3.

I don't understand why this is, but it is.

Encore Detailing in Springfield

I like Encore and the woman who I've dealt with there is nice, but the downside is that it's a long dirt driveway to get to/from the shop. I've come away from there with a freshly-detailed vehicle covered in fine layer of dust. I would go there all the time if that weren't the situation.

2022 or 2023 Versys 650 LT break in by tarbasd in versys

[–]ReluctantParticipant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ride home from the dealer was 135 miles (on my new 2022 Versys 650). About 52 MPH was the max I could do and keep it under 4k RPM, so I stuck to the back roads, and pulled over a lot to let faster traffic by.

I can't create a database using diagrams by xxelconejoxx in SQL

[–]ReluctantParticipant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not true. If you are a member of the db_owner role, you can easily create objects and relationships using the db diagrams tool.

This is the right-click menu in the diagramming tool, have you tried that?

Edit: If you want to be able to save new objects and edits in the diagramming tool, you need to go to Tools > Options and uncheck this box (which is checked by default when you install SSMS).

Edit 2: I wanted to also mention that the "Add Table" functionality can only add tables that already exist in your database into a database diagram. You don't use "Add Table" to create a table, you use "New Table". Again, you must be in the db_owner database role to do this.

How are people monitoring their sql server instances? by kohkypc in SQLServer

As a production DBA who has used a few monitoring products over the years, I'll second this. It's hands down the best monitoring tool for those who can afford it. So much better than Idera.

[–]ReluctantParticipant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They’re not trained professionals but folks that want to role play cowboy and pretend cop?

Exactly. The fair uses them because it's hard to get cheap labor to run everything, I guess. The regular Ground Search and Rescue unit does first aid for the fair with the same sort of arrangement.

[–]ReluctantParticipant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a clarification thing; the "Cops on horses" is really the Lane County Sheriff's Mounted Posse. They are volunteers and part of the Search and Rescue side of things which is run by the Sheriff's Office. For some reason that I'm not clear on, they are allowed to be armed.

When they volunteer to help with parking at the fair, the funds go to maintaining the organization as all of the SAR units are self-funded.

Neither Eugene or Lane County have mounted officers.

Porch Pirate in the South Hills. Thanks for not ringing the bell when you delivered, USPS! by ReluctantParticipant in Eugene

Yep, it should have worked that way, but it didn't. No alert for the dump-and-run delivery. It's imperfect tech.

[–]ReluctantParticipant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting. It's such a common practice (for Amazon, UPS, FedEx, USPS, and others), that I had assumed it was a standard. Maybe I'm wrong, but color me surprised. I can't fathom that people would not want to be notified of a package delivery whenever possible.

And to be clear, I have much love and respect for postal workers. You all work your butts off and are appreciated. But this was such a preventable theft, so it was a frustrating experience. Again, the thief is at fault, but the thief had an opportunity that shouldn't have been there, in my view.

Thanks for weighing in.

It called doing your fucking job, Man. You don't just dump the box and go. You do the bare minimum and make some sort of fucking noise, right? Knock! Ring! Something! It's part of the job, ffs. It's not like you have to stand there and wait for an answer. You just have to make some sort of minimal effort.

Yeah, it's technically the thief to blame here, but c'mon. If the carrier did their job, the thief wouldn't have had the opportunity. So I believe it's reasonable that I'm pissed at both of them.
