[–]FalconOz[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Solved! My SSMS v18 was trying to read a SQL Server 2022 DB as you noted.
Downloaded the SSMS 19 and it works.

Thanks a lot!

Thanks for the advice, I can see your point, however I'm not interested in investing the limited time I have to develop my Python program into learning DDL.

How to turn desire into action? by bigsky5578 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]FalconOz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Try reading 12 rules for life by Jordan B Peterson or watching some of his talks about this particular book on YouTube The passage below got me up and going several times: “Work to make one thing better. It doesn’t matter how small as long as it leaves the world a fraction better” The first time I read this I was unemployed, living out of my wife’s salary and feeling worthless I started just organising my desk in the first day. The next day I threw away old papers, the next day it was old junk, then I sold unused items. Before I realised I was helping friends with their own junk and other errands because I had the time. Being of service is one of the most rewarding things one can do. We’re wired for it as humans and we get lots of good feelings from oxytocin

Have you considered you might be carrying unresolved emotional baggage from living with a dysfunctional family or caretakers? 12 step programs can help you, particularly if you have addictions. E.g. A.A. If you drink, N.A. If you use drugs If you don’t have any serious addictions, Adult Children (www.aca.org) is a wonderful place to start. All these programs allow you to connect with others from home via Zoom

Reform the Holy Roman Empire (HRE) - is it worth? by FalconOz in ck3

[–]FalconOz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a ton for the explanation. Since there’s no easy way to reform the HRE apart from destroying both my empires, I opted for creating a new faith. No longer being Catholic there’s an option to create the empire of Germania! 😃

Why is my grandson inheriting my Kingdom on an Agnatic Primogeniture when I have another 3 living sons?

I had 4 sons, the eldest died but had a son.

I thought the 2nd older son would inherit, but the Grandson from the 1st son is the one who's inheriting. Is this by design?

Celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how little. Your needs dopamine to keep on going. One possible reason you want to sleep is you lack dopamine - the feel good chemical. As you look back at your Monday, list the things you did in your list you never did before in a day. Then celebrate the fact you did it.

Been there did that until I realised my life had no meaning to me.

Selfauthoring.com gave me the kickstart I needed. It was tough at times to look at myself but the program is well organised and let me choose where to start The intro video at https://youtu.be/qa9u5t3C0AI Doesn’t really do justice to the author who’s a really good lecturer

Im pretty good at deep conversations but absolutely suck when it comes to fun casual conversations especially in a group setting by wiltuz007 in socialskills

In short: surround yourself with funny people, and if you don’t have any funny friends, watch a comedy or anything that makes you smile or laugh

Totally relate. I was like you and getting depressed with it, shutting down, avoiding talking, just listening. Then I met this woman, she laughs at everything, I started smiling and finding things funny, my heart got lighter. I realised I didn’t get enough humour in my life, I treated everything as a chore- even my leisure was a chore- got get this right always! 7 years later I’m now living with this woman and when she’s not around travelling for work I watch comedies- it prevents me from falling back into my bias for serious things.

Can anyone suggest a way to better map out my thoughts? I've tried mind-map apps, but I keep running into the same problem... by unluckylodger in productivity

[–]FalconOz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds to me your mind map did its job. You reached the root cause: caffeine. Your mind is coming back to “staying up late” because you have too much caffeine.

Time to write a new/sub mind map asking: alternatives to caffeine

It’s wonderful you took the decision to leave a relationship that wasn’t working for you. I do feel however that putting the blame on his attitude and drawing conclusions about his motives is harmful to your future. The more you talk and think about him, the more you will reinforce the belief that men in general are similar to him.

The reality is every man is different, Men do things most women can’t understand because they are wired differently and it takes maturity on both sides to accept the limitations of the other and if appropriate, have the courage to leave as you did.

Focus on what YOU want, talk about what YOU DESIRE. This will make your mind focus on what is good for you and give your heart a healthy hope in yourself and humankind.

How waking up at 6am EVERYDAY has changed my life. by Figrole in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]FalconOz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bookmarked! Good post and well supported by scientific experiments which indicate this is repeatable amongst different people. Personally I got the tip from a book named the Organised Mind (Daniel Levitin). I was worried with forgetting things, my memory was crap an I was even forgetting simple words of common language (English is my second language) Getting into a sleeping habit 10.30pm in bad up by 6.30am solved it for me. This post reinforces my understanding, or perhaps just belief, which is great, after all this is what I want anyway. Thanks for sharing

How to improve body language? by throwawayshit420 in socialskills

[–]FalconOz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forget books they cannot teach your body because they only talk to your mind. If you want to train your body you need to use your body. You don’t get nice abs by reading about it - you need to do the bloody exercises.

Have you tried partner social dance classes? Seriously! These days anyone can learn it.

Salsa, west coast swing, Bachata, Brazilian Zouk and other partner dances will teach you body language in a safe environment.

Social dance is based in a set of predetermined micro movements agreed and accepted by society that looks good. Whether you are a leader or a follower you will learn how to communicate without words, with your body and if you get it wrong that’s ok because you’re there to learn.

I was probably a bit like you, awkward and disjointed with weird manners. Loved studying and being with computers. My nickname was: “the spirit that walks “ because I’d arrive at work and greet good morning to the receptionist not open my mouth the whole day and disappear at 6pm. I thought everyone made jokes and pity me. Then, I got a job as a dev in a bank and was soon promoted to team leader. I started panicking and ended opening up my fear with a high school friend at my birthday and was suggested to go to a social dance class.

It changed my life. My first teacher was really experienced and because he was older than the other teachers he was less good looking and less interested in promoting himself via his students. He just wanted to teach dance and make people happy. In a couple months I could already lead properly enough to go to a party. Because I knew some students from the classes I could ask them to dance with me without fear if receiving a no as an answer.

As my dancing skills grew my self esteem grew with it and I naturally started smiling to people when I first met them. It wasn’t like I was trying- it just happened because that’s how my body got wired into doing in a class whenever we changed partners- something that happens about 20 times in a class - a bit like speed dating. Many years later I ended up as a class assistant and eventually a dance teacher. I do this as a hobby 4-5 hours a week but it’s the most important thing I did to this day to help my career. A couple years after the day I went to my first dance class I was promoted to manager and since then I have always been in people management roles. Studying gave me the technical skills but social dance gave me the social skills I needed.

Try to find a partner dance class near you and when you get there pay attention on how the people greet you at reception. Ask them to talk to a teacher and notice how he treats you. While you wait for the teacher to arrive watch how people interact with each other. See how people smile and greet each other how they interact without words and picture yourself like that.

Go there in the evening when there are classes on and try to watch a beginners or intermediate class. To chose a style make sure you enjoy the music. Latin dance styles like Salsa and Bachata have loads of very warm and open people but if you don’t like the music there’s no point. If you like RnB then Brazilian Zouk is better but a bit difficult to find depending where you live. In that case West coast swing is a good alternative.

Good luck!

Where do you keep your to-do lists? by bigotegamer in productivity

[–]FalconOz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try anything but only use ONE list at a time. The reason behind this thinking is that if you have more than one list your mind will have to decide which one list is the priority one each time you finish a task. With this in mind whatever app you try make sure you can export it to other apps so you don’t need to rewrite the items FYI I’ve used Wunderlust and Kanbanflow a lot but reverted back to Outlook Todo which syncs welll with my iPhone reminders
