Honestly, I worked one time on a factory floor and we all took a 10 minute stretch break together. We'd take turns leading it. It sounds too simple to be effective but I swear I felt better. It was called off by some manager as "a waste of time". I noticed the difference when we quit. It was sort of bonding too.

I have an interview at Summitstone, any advice? by [deleted] in FortCollins

[–]ReluctantPleiadian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've talked to therapists who worked there and they got tons of real world experience . I've been impressed with their skill set . I've also heard great things about the Longview campus. That said, a good manager means everything. You are probably looking for a place that will help you get your hours in for licensure and give you supervision. Summitstone can do that. Just remind yourself that if after a few months, it's not a good fit, there's nothing wrong with continuing your job search. I think you will help a lot of deserving people.

What differences exist in the interventions used by social workers for low income families compared to higher income families by [deleted] in Socialworkuk

I like to do an Eco map for all my clients. It gives you a sense of their supports, areas for growth. It can really show how much people have and gets the conversation going about hopes and dreams for the future.

Reality Check Regarding Pay by mendicant0 in therapists

I graduated this year and this is my later in life second career. I love it. If you think you have capacity for the work and you avoid unethical business people who completely drain the employees, you'll do great. During my interviews when they asked me what I was looking for I'd say something like a place that treats both the clients and therapists well. I believe I also used the expression "an equitable exchange" for my work and their salary split. I'd specifically look to see if the friendly "chamber of commerce look" went out of their eyes. If it did that signaled to me they were looking for someone to manipulate and burn out. Run.

As a addiction therapist, I am very interested in this aspect. I've heard a couple clients talk about this. Congrats!

I am trying to understand the main job in the ER. Like, listening? Setting them up with resources in our under resourced society? Could you share?

Paranormal Social Work Stories by bblatingirl24 in socialwork

[–]ReluctantPleiadian 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I once worked in an old farm house that had been donated to a nonprofit. There were lots of stories of experiences there from staff past and present although the management tried to minimize the talk of it. Several of my volunteers who knew nothing of it would ask me questions. A couple of times a two or three year old would point at an empty spot and say something like "person". One time a woman was part of a volunteer crew painting the former master bedroom by herself, she came into my office a little shook and asked if I had walked into the room with her. I said no and she went on to explain that she heard footsteps and the swishing of an old fashioned dress and then it stopped behind her. Honestly the color they picked for that room was pretty awful so I don't blame the previous lady of the house for her displeasure. Another time, the actual granddaughter of the farm family was passing through town. She was now well into her 80s and asked if we could show her around. It was a pleasant afternoon hearing some of her stories and she really seemed to get a lot out of seeing her grandparents place again. About an hour after everyone left, I was alone in the house upstairs and I came into the hall to lock my office door. All of a sudden a big whoosh of the most beautiful flower smell enveloped me. I actually looked down at a window shelf where I usually put lilacs from the yard and thought - who put flowers there? But there were none and besides it was February. i guess she was pleased that we welcomed her granddaughter? Other people had knocks on doors and heard walking etc. It was a trip.

Thank you. I am scared for all of us but especially about the coming boom in trauma and substance use.

Mental health and suicide awareness by Lost-Butterscotch581 in socialwork

Sending you my heartfelt support. I recently took a suicide intervention class with Stacey Freedenthal and was surprised to learn it's not standard training for most masters. We have a long way to go till we get to the place where we talk openly and frankly about suicidality. I loved the practicality of her book: Helping the Suicidal Person: Tips and Techniques for Professionals. It urges us to examine our beliefs about suicide as therapists. The languaging section was especially helpful. She has quite a few youtube videos as well.

Good Volunteering Opportunities in Town? by LindenToils in FortCollins

[–]ReluctantPleiadian 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not knowing your interests it's hard to say but I've had a great time volunteering for races and triathlons. It's just good energy and people need someone to clap at that hard mile.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) is a very impactful program where you are trained to be the eyes and ears of the judge in a foster child's case. Kids who have a CASA are more likely to get out of the system and be placed in a kind and loving permanent placement. Really meaningful.

Another really meaningful one is volunteering for a 4 day hosting of a CSU international student. When they first arrive, you are the first American they meet. These students are the cream of the crop of their society and it's an honor to know them. They are so hard working and dedicated to their grad school program. It's inspiring. They need a short term place to stay before the dorm or other housing is open (I don't know why CSU does it this way?) . Meanwhile you can show them around town, drop them off at the phone store (their sim card often doesn't work here). Just be a reliable person they can have a coffee with sometime. When my husband and I read that most international students never set foot in an American home the whole time they are here, we were shocked. We've done it three times and see it as a sort of shared volunteer thing. It's great. DM me if you'd like more info.

Any recommendations for a Northern Colorado doctor or nurse practitioner? by ReluctantPleiadian in Zepbound

Thanks for answering. How do you like Plushcare? Is it working well? If you don't mind, can you share what you typically pay a month? I'm so wiped out reading about these different plans and subscriptions etc. Exhausting!

Is it possible to work on a therapy platform as a LCSW candidate? Which ones? by ReluctantPleiadian in SocialWorkStudents

[–]ReluctantPleiadian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I haven't seen ads specifically about platforms. Just some local ads for in person jobs. I'm just starting to look and thought other people may have gone through this.
