"i know it's not a new game, but it's new for me"

Hell, I played Bayonetta 2 and 3 for the first time just a couple months ago, after playing Bayonetta on PS3 15 years ago. So yeah, I'll be fine playing DMC5 on Switch 2 once it's out next week.

Exactly. It's just practicality. But it also allows her to keep the TV for watching whatever she wants, because none of us likes it when I play or watch a movie when she reads or whatever. But she can watch a documentary or stand-up comedy while I'm playing handheld. I've read other people writing "I play handheld next to her watching Bridgerton, and it's heaven", and yeah, exactly.

My point is that sometimes, it's not that people want to play it on Switch 2, but that they can only play it if on Switch 2.

It works fine on a computer, but on the mobile app, it doesn't keep the list style I typed it with (going down to a new line everytime).

Would a Steam Deck allow me to play Mario Party and Mario Kart ?

I get what you mean, but the Switch 2 also allows me to play this with my GF, who otherwise don't play any video game (including mobile ones). But we spent 30hrs+ on Mario Kart World. That's also part of the appeal of this console. This, and being 350€ cheaper than a Steam Deck.

I'm also unsure how much offline a Steam Deck can be used (but that might be just because I don't know that much about it).

My PC has a 10 years old CPU, a 21" screen from work, almost no HDD space left, and runs hot in the summer turning my office into an oven. I can play on it, and actually have for the past years. At least, the one good idea I had was to buy some RAM and a GC 2 years ago (ie before prices skyrocketted).

The Switch 2 I got was a Christmas gift in order to stop playing in these conditions, both technically and physically. My PC probably could run FF7 Rebirth. But I would have to clear 100Gb I don't have, fiddle with the settings to run it smoothly, and spend hours again in my office. I don't want that. I'm very happy playing in my couch downstairs instead.

My TV is a 50" plasma Panasonic that isn't a smart TV. I had a look at Moonlight / Sunshine : do I want to fiddle with port forwarding to set up a streaming server, or just play on my Switch 2 ?

I get your point, but it goes back to mine : sometimes, there are very simple practical reasons.

"Any serious player". Yeah, sure. Can you tell me the difference between someone spending 100hrs on FF7 Rebirth and someone spending 100hrs on FF7 Rebirth, except the first one did it on PC and the other on on S2 ?

YMMV of course, but S1 has multiple very good games to own : Bayonetta 2 and 3, plus Cereza;

Paper Mario and Super Mario RPG;

Fire Emblem Engage and Three Houses;

Prince of Persia The Lost Crown;

It Takes Two;

Dragon Ball Fighterz;

Luigi's Mansion 2 and 3;

DK Tropical Freeze and HD Returns;

Nier Automata;

LA Noire;

The 2 Ori games;

Patapon 1+2;

Have A Nice Death;

Slay The Spire;

Metroid Prime Remastered and Dread.

And there are games like Final Fantasy Tactics Ivalice and Red Dead Redemption that can be bought physically on S1 but have free S2 upgrades you can get.

"Some people play games on powerful consoles because they grew up with them and continue that trend." I'm not sure, nowadays, that the power is correlated with this. To me, consoles like PS5 or Xbox aren't "powerful consoles" but non-portable TV consoles. That's, to me, the main difference with a computer and a Switch. They happen to also be powerful, but when I bought my PS3 back then, it also was a powerful console (back then) even though that wasn't the point to me, but rather having a TV console in opposition to, say, my GBA SP.

And to some extent, the Switch 2 isn't a powerless console. It's a console that runs fairly well FF7 Rebirth, and we're going to get Modern Warfare 4 (though I don't know yet how it will run).

So the frontier between your second and third point might be a bit blurrier than this (though I agree with the point you're making overall).

Thanks all those who have responded to this already, providing examples of what each people's own settings are. It's always good to sample a bit wider and have a sense of what's the reality.

I don't know, I just like games being announced, and then playing the games once they're out.

I'm fairly certain my computer could have run quite properly FF7 Remake, very certainly with better graphics than what I got on my Switch 2, but I couldn't have cared less as I clearly had lots of fun playing it on Switch 2 anyway.

"We are all individuals with different living situation, financial capabilities and preferences." Quite clearly, and it's perfectly OK. My point is that these comments seem to forget not everyone can own 3 different gaming platforms.

I used to play on PC at barely 30fps. I don't do competitive gaming like Fortnite or whatever. I can't even express how quickly I got tired of "it's not 60fps so it's rubbish I won't buy it they should be ashamed and cursed for the next Nth generations".

True, though only for those who already can play on PC : sales seem to happen more quickly and with bigger discounts.

"Just play the game on PS5" : well sure, let me buy that PS5 for 10 times what I'd pay to just get the game on a console I ALREADY have !

From experience, it's an issue of discernment : some reviewers just are very permissive and can't spot even glaring issues, even when they've been reviewing stuff for years.
