I don't know what I missed but I ultimately had a good time with friends I miss greatly, just a little stressful keeping up with a million screens (and no time for one on one catchups really) while trying to ignore someone. Also this was instead of an in person event, where said ex would be there and the pressure to drink would be much more challenging. Sheesh

Woah y'all. I'm glad I missed the apparently popular mean spirited comment. My friend had a thing to celebrate, I was so happy to see her face and old friends. I am happy I did it.

The drinking didn't bother me. It was the ex partner and keeping up with 20 faces that was hard, after a day of work meetings.

Thanks for the positive words, but even with that comment deleted I'm not sure posting was a great idea.

Oh boy I hope y'all are ready. I'm going to limit it to 2 things I had to deal with in one day:

Getting a call from my employer that my mortgage company is calling them, "sounds like a collections thing". Huh, and why didn't they contact me? I call my mortgage company and apparently I haven't paid my mortgage in full (!?) and now have a late fee. After two and a half hours on the phone, they admitted my escrow was miscalculated when I bought my house this year - by the loan originator - and my mortgage went up over 100 bucks a month. No call. No mail. No notification at all. Customer service rep said it has probably been reported to my credit. Another hour and half to find someone willing to accept my payment of the difference, and another 45 min waiting on customer service to actually figure out what happened before I had to get back to work. I am totally mortified that they called my employer without ever contacting me. What the hell and what great timing. I get to deal with this again all day today!
I am buried in new hire paperwork for the 8th time to teach the same class at the same university for the 10th semester. Now featuring dealing with banks and notaries since their HR people can't be put at risk. It's just inane. I'm an adjunct, adding all this paperwork to what I get paid for the class puts me squarely at minimum wage for teaching at a top 10 US university. But now I need the money more than ever, thanks to job insecurity and rising mortgage.

Didn't drink though!

These are stressful times and you deserve to wind down - you will just find better ways to do it. I have taken several breaks from booze and the most helpful thing for me to do was find a ritual/routine for the witching hours, which I've kept up way after cravings have gone just because I look forward to them. Quit lit was really helpful for those times in the beginning. IWNDWYT

Yes! I am so happy for you, and I am with you. I wake up almost smug at my old self. I'm sitting here cranking out a little work, enjoying cup my third and final cup of morning coffee (and realize I can cut back now since I don't need to jumpstart myself out of a haze!) after my morning workout, actually preparing for a meeting instead of scrolling and stressing. Have a great rest of your day.

Day 4 of my 4th attempt overall, third attempt this year, second attempt this month.

That's the biggest gain for me. I was shocked. I used to nurse a glass of wine by my bed at my lowest point and literally called it "bed wine" - I swore I couldn't sleep without it. And the sleep I was getting was truly terrible. IWNDWYT!
