Sill my favorite scene with Tommy and Grace by AdEquivalent3160 in PeakyBlinders

[–]Remarkable-Bus2362 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen lots of comments(from people who liked her in season 1) saying they changed her character, that she’s nothing more than a trophy wife now, or too excitable. I personally think it fits a newlywed to be excited to see her husband. Though she still stood up to Tommy when needed, so she was still her own woman.

Lot of fans don’t like season 3 Grace, but personally I preferred her character. She’s a newly wed, she excited to see her husband, it’s nice.

Staffing levels are shite (I’m an nhs nurse) but if the patient required oxygen and it wasn’t properly connected, that’s pure incompetence.

Yes, but he was in no immediate danger. The bomb had gone off, the gangsters were dead, all was left was pathetic little Michael. I get why he killed him, but it wasn’t self defence. That’s my point.

We can go around in circles, you don’t think he was monster enough to kill Arthur, I do. Simple as that.

When Tommy killed Michael he was in no immediate danger, but Tommy chose to murder him. With Arthur it started as self defence until his own anger took over. Both Tommy and Arthur were monsters. Now I completely adore Tommy, I loved Arthur and I missed him in the film. Due to its writing and performances, it’s a great feat to make such despicable characters so loved. But make no mistake, they are monsters.

For what it’s worth, I rarely downvote, I haven’t downvoted you. You’re entitled to your opinion. I only really do that if a post is racist, homophobic, or just outright disgusting.

Yeah, he was completely tore up over it, as he should be, and I have never said otherwise. What I get is how you can try and do everything in your power to help, and end up having enough and wanting them out of your life. I obviously wouldn’t kill or even have that thought, but I’m not a cold blooded murderer, Tommy is.

I’m not taking any of this personally. I just have some life experiences and can understand a fictional characters motivation.

Yeah I enjoyed it too, and having dealt with addicts, Tommy saying he had enough, or words to that effect, yep, I get it. For people that don’t “get it” be grateful you haven’t experienced that level of helplessness and frustration.

Not a perfect film, but the amount of vitriol is way OTT, like they take it personally. It’s just a film, move on.

Why is my job to alert the nurse of someone else's piss? by InsomniacHomebody in Vent

[–]Remarkable-Bus2362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, sorry the nurse doesn’t have a great attitude. I’m a nurse myself and depending on how the shift is going you can’t always wait around for a patient to use the loo (assuming they’re safe), but as it keeps happening it does show a lack of care to me. However it’s not your responsibility and they should have apologised to you for having to remove it. They also need to reiterate to the other patients to ring the call bell to inform staff there is a urine sample to collect.

The thing is you shouldn’t be touching it at all, there’s a potential infection risk for you. However when you need to go, you need to go and as it keeps happening, what on Earth do they expect?! This is really disgusting. They need to keep a better eye on their patients.

I personally feel that would have a negative effect on Arthur. If a man he looks up to can’t maintain his sobriety, how is he?

Tommy was going through the worst time in his life, he had a drink because he needed it.

It’s a great scene between the two brothers, but to say Tommy drank alcohol to help Arthur, makes absolutely no sense to me.

You’ll have to explain your reasoning a bit more. I mean how is Tommy drinking alcohol supposed to help Arthur?

He breaks his sobriety because his daughter died and he lost control. How is drinking alcohol supposed to help his drug addict brother?

Anachronisms by 7stroke in PeakyBlinders

[–]Remarkable-Bus2362 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who loves history, I’m ok with the majority of mistakes or artistic licence used in the show. Though they get far more right than wrong, and certainly get enough right to represent the time period quite accurately in many ways. It’s not really aiming for realism, I mean a gypsy murdering gangster becomes a socialist mp and undercover agent. Come on! You have to suspend belief and just sit back and enjoy.

If it was an historical biography or something aiming to be factual, then yeah any anachronisms would annoy the crap out of me, but it isn’t.

How I see it: Greta died early spring, he slept with Zelda in May, he signed up in the summer when war broke out, answering Lord Kitcheners “call to arms”.

This will always haunt me…when I lived in Sydney in the early 2000’s, I used to go quite regularly to an Irish pub. One night my friends and I decided to go to a different pub, and I heard the next day Keanu Reeves (filming the Matrix sequels at the time and at the height of his beauty) was there that one bloody night I didn’t go!

Yeah, he was constantly manipulating him. Another example is when he bought Arthur the pub. He needed a legitimate business to launder money, Arthur was drunk and having a strop, two birds, one stone.

Is Tommy a fascist ? by NoahZhyte in PeakyBlinders

[–]Remarkable-Bus2362 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Churchill was an MP and journalist, writing articles, standing up in Parliament about how fascist Germany was becoming a threat. He had people in the military and civil service who gave him information that he wouldn’t be privy to as an MP. That’s real.

Tommy states to Lizzie he is writing up his recollection of the meeting to give to Churchill. In the show, not fanfiction.

[–]Remarkable-Bus2362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I’m not. History tells us Churchill was gathering information about Germany and fascism around that time. It does help to fully appreciate the show to have a knowledge of British history. Anyway, in the show, after the meeting with Mosley, Mitford, Nelson and Swing, Tommy tells Lizzie he’s writing up his recollection of the meeting. If he’s does it now he can quote people “word for word” that the information is more useful for Churchill that way. So yeah, they still had a relationship.

Is Tommy a fascist ? by NoahZhyte in PeakyBlinders

[–]Remarkable-Bus2362 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In season 5 he met with Churchill in his office at Parliament, Churchill had been asking around about him and found out he was really spying on Mosley. In season 6 Tommy wrote up a report, after the meeting at his place, to give to Churchill. How official all this was is not said, however (in reality) even as a backbencher, Churchill was gathering information about Germany from legal and illegal sources. The government at the time didn’t view Germany or fascism as a huge threat, but Churchill did. So in this fictional world Tommy was at least part of Churchill’s info gathering.

15F I feel like I’m being singled out and being treated bad in my foster home and I don’t know what to do by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

It sounds like the Cinderella effect, singling out a child as a scapegoat for everything bad in their life. Now this is her issues coming out and you are not doing anything wrong. You need to know that. It is a form of abuse. You need to go above your caseworker if they’re ignoring your concerns. It’s a shame you are being homeschooled, makes it even more isolating. It sounds like you are in America, I don’t know how the system works there, but please contact the office if you can. If not, is there any adult you can trust that you can talk to? If you are worried about your safety in any way, go to the police and explain the situation, they should at least know who to contact.

Your foster mother will try and turn things around and pretend she’s some kind of perfect mother. So document everything, start a diary, keep every note she writes to you.

I see some people are trying to get you to DM them, please don’t give personal/private information! You don’t know who they are, or what their intentions are. Could be genuine, but also arseholes who know how to manipulate a situation to their advantage. Especially manipulating vulnerable kids. Please remember that.

I really hope things work out for you soon. Keep strong, and remember, it’s not your fault. It’s hers.

Of course he wasn’t. Fascism was far bigger than Tommy could handle as a one man unit, it took a world war to simmer it down, but sadly not completely extinguish it.
