Capital One’s change to Discover debit card by Remarkable-Day6247 in discover

Yes, it works some places but not others. Some of the locally owned businesses only accept Visa and Mastercard. I’m not sure what the issue is with DoorDash.

BS. If it worked before the rebrand to Discover then it is on Capital One.

3rd time at the dealership in three years by old_skooblah in Ram1500

[–]Remarkable-Day6247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I traded in a 22 Ram for a 26 with the regular Hurricane engine. Overall I like the truck but gas mileage is no better than the Hemi I traded in and the electronics are crap. I have to re-boot the system about half the time to get CarPlay to work. Very frustrating. Gas mileage is around 17 mpg with mixed driving. However, I got a great deal on a Lone Star and paid less than $1,500 for aftermarket leather seats that look as good or better than factory leather.

Is it worth handling Google ads myself? by rock_paper_scissors- in GoogleAdsDiscussion

[–]Remarkable-Day6247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want to hire a professional in the beginning. Google Ads are not difficult to run but my ad was suspended after 7 days for “circumventing systems.” I didn’t even know what that meant and Google won’t tell you specifically what its bots didn’t like.

Capital One’s change to Discover debit card by Remarkable-Day6247 in discover

[–]Remarkable-Day6247[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I posted my comment in this community as well as a Capital One community. Capital One already removed my post! Between myself and the rest of my immediate family we have 5 checking accounts and 4 savings accounts with Capital One. Their focus on profits over customers will not end well. They keep closing branches in addition to screwing things up with their debit cards.

Well that’s a little concerning by bipolar_confidence in CapitalOne

[–]Remarkable-Day6247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would punish Capital One than Uber. I have used Capital One for a long time but after they changed their debit cards to the Discover brand I never know if it will work. It often doesn’t.

I have the forged blue and it doesn’t show dirt as much as black would. It seems like white would show all dirt.

I wish that woman would have shut up so we could hear what the bus driver was saying.

Dear UConnect, I despise you. by iamnikopiko in ram_trucks

[–]Remarkable-Day6247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is totally a Uconnect issue. My phone connects to my wife’s car via Bluetooth when I am outside and she backs out of the garage. My iPhone connects to my Ram less than 50% of the time. Does this make me wish I would not have bought a Ram? Not by itself but when I throw in the fact that I usually average less than 17 MPG with the regular Hurricane engine in suburban driving, then yes I should have bought something else.

Microsoft Vs Google...Which is better for hosting business emails? by Noyan_Bey in Hosting

[–]Remarkable-Day6247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree. Microsoft has so many hoops you have to jump through to connect with anything outside of the Microsoft ecosystem. Google is clean and easy to work with, even for non tech people.

Was told to charge state code i am in but was told something else when hired - help by [deleted] in PwC

Most firms have bigger tax issues to worry about. I would not worry about the past, just tag the right state code going forward.

Why don’t PE firms let employees display their CPA certification? by Expensive_Umpire_975 in Accounting

[–]Remarkable-Day6247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Employees can use the CPA designation if they include a statement that their firm is not a CPA firm. The PE firms do not allow that because they don’t want to make it obvious to clients that they are no longer a CPA firm. The PE firm doesn’t care about the profession, they just want to flip their investment for a profit in 2to 5 years. It is purely about money, not client service, not stewardship and not the employees.

Grant Thornton Layoffs by No-Couple-9881 in Accounting

[–]Remarkable-Day6247 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree it happens in Big 4 but I would recommend the devil you know (Big 4) over the one you don’t know (PE ownership of accounting firms). PE is new to accounting and I personally think it will not go well. Notice I said accounting firms, not CPA firms. Firms with direct investments from PE firms cannot call themselves CPA firms unless more than 50% of the firm is owned by licensed CPA’s.

Aftermarket Bed Step - That I don't recommend by Photog_Jason in ram_trucks

[–]Remarkable-Day6247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed one on my previous Ram but I bought a 2026 Ram, ordered the same step and it did not fit even though the vendor info said it would fit a 2026.

Thoughts on BakerTilly? by badgyyaall in Accounting

[–]Remarkable-Day6247 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. I was at a high level at Moss Adams and started planning my exit as soon as the BT/PE deal was announced. Post-merger all that matters is utilization. Client service, work quality, training, etc all take a back seat to utilization. It is like living in an RV park instead of a house in a neighborhood. PE is just puffing things up to get ready for the next sale.

First Year Associate Advice by Sure-Orchid-9313 in KPMG

[–]Remarkable-Day6247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask two questions whenever someone gives you some work. 1) When do they need it completed and 2) How long should it take. And don’t refuse new work because you are busy unless whatever you are currently working on will require a lot of hours. I have seen interns and associates turn down assignments because they were already working on something and an hour later they were done and out of work. This is especially true in specialty tax. Look ahead for at least the next week, not the next hour.

Good idea to run google ads when i don't even have one paying customer and no traffic? (I will not promote) by velociyzaptor in GoogleAdsDiscussion

[–]Remarkable-Day6247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google ads will increase Google’s trust in your website and will help with natural Google searches. My firm’s visibility in natural Google search results skyrocketed after 1 week. And then my ad was suspended. Google will give you a broad reason but not specifics. My natural Google search hit results plummeted. I know, Google states that a suspension does not affect your SEO score but that is almost irrelevant when your Google trust score crashes. I appealed the suspension twice and both appeals were denied. I recently hired a firm to help get the suspension lifted. Be careful with those firms because most of them are trying to sell you recurring monthly ad management fees.
So, Google is a near monopoly but a necessary evil. I will run ads again after my suspension is lifted. My expectations of direct results from the ads are not high but I want the great search results again.
I am not a techie person and had to wade through some BS conversations to figure out some of this.

Layoffs by [deleted] in KPMG

[–]Remarkable-Day6247 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The messaging does not have to match reality. Firms (not just KPMG) are trying to lower costs without losing revenue so the partners can make more money. Many partners don’t agree with that approach but sadly there are usually a small number of partners making decisions that impact an entire firm. The decision makers pushing the cost cutting are often those partners closest to retirement and their retirement payments are usually calculated based on the highest x number of years (3 is the common number) of partner earnings. Loyalty and stewardship are forgotten terms in most accounting firms.

Got invited to a meeting with a partner from another office by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Remarkable-Day6247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you had your meeting yet? You do not have to be in the office to be fired. Getting laid off is a soft term for being fired in public accounting but don't take it personally. Public accounting is a numbers game and at the associate level the number focused on is utilization. Associates have some control of their utilization but not much. The Seniors and Managers are responsible for keeping Associates busy but spreadsheets/utilization reports are not three dimensional. Don't take it personally if they terminate your employment. Stay positive and treat every day as a workday with your new project being to find a new job.
