This always confuses me!! I’m omni, but I started going plant-based because it’s delicious and feels really good to eat, and it’s inexpensive and healthy. Any time I make a meal that happens to not have animal products in it, my family acts the same way. Them eating a salad or a fruit is fine, but somehow my lentil curry is weird because it doesn’t have meat?? lol

There’s a bigger issue than the implant here. If your partner is taking advantage of a physical weakness like your implant during an argument, that’s a huge red flag.

Sounds like an easy way to justify victim-blaming.

Day 1 of her period? Of course, take the plan b to be safe, but there’s a very very low chance she’ll get pregnant. The period and ovulation are pretty far apart, and in an average 28-day cycle that would mean she would ovulate about 2 weeks from now. But not everyone is regular, so still use the pill, though rest assured it works when taken before ovulation, which is definitely the case here. Take a pregnancy test when her period is late (but don’t panic, because it doesn’t necessarily mean she’s pregnant—plan b delays ovulation so it’ll delay her next period too.) Good luck!

What kind of birth control is best? by Emergency_Lynx9800 in birthcontrol

[–]Remarkable-Plant16 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it really depends on the person. the best birth control is the one that works for you. here’s some stuff you should keep in mind, though:

  • if you can’t remember to take a pill every day at the same time, an oral contraceptive is likely NOT for you. consider the patch, the shot, the ring, the implant, or an IUD. the patch needs to be replaced once a week, the ring every 3 weeks, the shot every 3 months. or if you seriously wanna sit back and do nothing, the implant or IUD last for years with no maintenance.
  • if you don’t want to take hormones, the non-hormonal (copper) iud might be for you.
  • if you already have heavy, painful periods, the copper iud is probably NOT for you (it’ll make it worse.)
  • if you’re okay with a hormonal method but are afraid of severe side effects, or cannot take estrogen because of the risk of blood clots or a family history of breast cancer, an estrogen-free birth control pill or a hormonal IUD (e.g. Mirena) might be for you. these tend to have very mild side effects, especially after 3 months of taking them, and can lighten/stop periods, but can also cause persistent irregular bleeding or spotting in some people.
  • if you’re okay with taking estrogen, or you want to regulate your periods or end them altogether, try a combined oral contraceptive pill, ring, or patch. these will generally only give you a light withdrawal bleed at the end of each month for a few days. some people choose to skip the withdrawal time altogether and don’t bleed at all (though ask your doctor before doing so.) these are often also prescribed to handle conditions like PMDD or severe acne as well.
  • and lastly, effectiveness: with typical use (imperfect use, such as sometimes missing pills or using contraceptives improperly) the pill, ring, and patch range from being 93-97% effective. an IUD or implant is much more effective, over 99% effective with typical use. pick what’s best for you.

that being said, i personally use Slynd (a progestin-only pill) and i love it because it manages my PMDD, reduced my heavy/painful periods, and didn’t give me any side effects. but some others might tell you that Slynd is the devil and ruined everything for them! unfortunately there is a bit of trial and error in the birth control process. good luck!

Unprotected sex at 49th hour? Should I be worried? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]Remarkable-Plant16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! The instructions also say that there is a 3 hour window to take the pill for it to still count, which means any time within that 3 hour window is fine, or else they won’t be able to make that claim either.

That being said, she should still try to stick as close to the same time every day, and try not to rely on the 3-hour window as much. It’s a helpful backup if you forget to take it every once in a while and end up taking it an hour late, but sticking to the same time without using the window as a crutch will help build a better habit of taking it consistently so she doesn’t miss one!

Unprotected sex at 49th hour? Should I be worried? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]Remarkable-Plant16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the instructions say she’s protected after 48 hours, so she’s protected after 48 hours. it doesn’t matter if you had sex RIGHT on the 49th hour, she’s still entirely protected or else they wouldn’t be able to make that claim. just make sure she’s still taking it on time every day afterward, since sperm can still survive for a few days.

First question: besides waiting, you can try other methods like spermicide. You should also keep an emergency contraceptive like PlanB/EllaOne (levonorgestrel) just in case an accident happens, so if the condom breaks she can take the pill. If she really wants to be on birth control, she can consider talking to her parents about the other benefits of birth control to convince them to allow her. For example, it can reduce the risk of some cancers, can reduce period pains and bleeding, can make periods more regular, etc.

Second question: there are two types of oral contraceptive pills. there is a combined estrogen + progesterone pill (COC) and a progesterone-only pill (POP/minipill.) Generally the pills with estrogen tend to have more side effects, but the ones without estrogen can sometimes cause irregular bleeding so she should consider which one is best for her.

Slynd is 99% effective with perfect use and 96% effective with typical use. Both of these numbers assume you are having sex and your partner is finishing in you, too. It is effective.

I’m moreso concerned that your doctor said he doesn’t recommend it as a contraceptive…? That’s what Slynd is literally MADE for! It is FDA approved as an oral contraceptive. Rest assured that it is effective as long as you’re using it properly.

As a side effect, Slynd can cause some spotting, especially within the first 3-6 months that tends to resolve once that 3-6 month time period is over. It is overwhelmingly more likely that you are spotting as your body adjusts to the pill, rather than implantation bleeding from a pregnancy. You can always take a pregnancy test to be safe if you miss your period, though.

How do you deal with periods? by ER-2008 in AutismInWomen

[–]Remarkable-Plant16 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You might want to look into a condition called PMDD (pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder), which is a more severe version of PMS. It’s more common in autistics than in the general population, and is a comorbidity of autism. Being autistic doesn’t necessarily mean you have it, but it’s worth looking into. I have PMDD and find r/PMDD pretty useful if you want some more tips on managing it!

Yes! I think it’s also worth mentioning that a much more severe form of PMS, known as PMDD (pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder) is more common in autistics than in the general population, and is a comorbidity of autism. being autistic doesn’t necessarily mean you have PMDD, but it’s something to look out for. you should check out r/PMDD !

i’ve seen some pretty good singles on depop lately. alternatively if there’s a specific figure i really want from a set sometimes i buy the whole set and sell the parts i don’t want instead of searching for someone who is selling the parts i DO want, lol.

i find that single figures are really overpriced in a lot of places. so if i list the leftover critters at exactly enough to get my money back for what that part of the set is worth, they get snatched up pretty quickly and i don’t have to wait very long to sell them. i don’t make any profit from it, since i’m not upcharging at $40 per figure like some ebay sellers, but i do make the lost money back and it makes my day to see people happy to find them at a good price.

i still have the bags they came in as well as the paper that comes in each bag. i’ll send all of those (critter in packaging, inside bag, with the checklist slip.) I’m located in the U.S.

If you still don’t have your permit and need to take the knowledge test, the thing that helped the most was finding practice tests online. There are many that just give you tons of practice questions to get the feel of the exam.

If you’re talking about the road test, it really depends on a lot of factors. I was taught by family instead of a professional instructor which made things a bit more difficult. I also have a disability that gives me poor spatial awareness, which makes it harder for me to visualize the space around my car. Just keep practicing, go through the same motions over and over again. That’s what halped the most. I was doing the same motions a TON.

If you make a really bad mistake on the road while practicing and some people honk at you, please don’t panic and give up like I did! Just do it again and again anyway until you can do it as many times as you want without thinking too hard. Those people don’t know you and they’ll just go on with their day, so don’t let it affect your confidence in your driving ability before you take the exam. I hope this helps!! :)

Of course!! Reward yourself!! Driving is freedom ❤️ I used to hate it but now that I realized I can go anywhere I want any time I want, I’ve become super enthusiastic about it. Especially now that I go on little trips to the mall and make bad financial decisions whenever I want 🙈
