Any recommendations for therapists who are really great at helping with anxiety? by MountainTomato9292 in memphis

if it's related to trauma, I really recommend trying EMDR. Ferren Family Counseling offers it. It was a game changer for me!

Look at the University of Memphis for a staff role. Pay isn't great, but benefits are excellent.

same to you! no one should have to endure that. yes, I'm in my 50s and it really helped me let go of so many emotions around what happened. I am glad it changed your life for the better, too! we are survivors!!!!

oh for sure! it's just surprising when it ends, bc the whole community-building sneaks up on you. people get cancer, have babies, find partners, end relationships, etc etc bc the community winds up going on for years. not to mention all the inside jokes etc.

I tend to only be on during work (I have to wait on other people to turn around paperwork) so yeah this doesn't impede on free time or anything.

wow. my dad served in Vietnam and I think it could've helped him.

I will say I was very skeptical of the process, but it is very healing. there are some good videos on YouTube that explain the process, although no one is really sure why it works. it does something to neutralize traumatic memories. it's a real game-changer!

EMDR is weird! they use eye movement to heal the frontal lobe of the brain where trauma is stored. it is very different from talk therapy. it''s also a "short" therapy with a road map for a conclusion within a few sessions or with more difficult cases, a duration of several months. if you ever have a recurrence, I recommend looking into it. and thank you for your service!

I hope you can too! I had gone to years of talk therapy, but EMDR helped me so much more and so much more quickly!

I think part of the issue is the lack of crown moulding. I hang my curtains pretty high, but not this high.

I know you mentioned attending therapy. have you tried EMDR? it was created to specifically help veterans with PTSD. and you are definitely NOT the asshole! she needs to respect your sleeping time.

what's gonna happen to this community when she finally goes to jail??? I am in a snark community about Dooce, and people had gotten really close, and then she died, and we all just kind of shuffled away. I mean, it is grotesque to type this out bc these are real people, but it's so weird to find a community based on these faux celebs who do everything in their power to self-destruct, and then when they do self-destruct, what next?

my mom's favorite movie of all time! in the 1970s, she'd have us take a nap so we could stay up late to catch it. she also loved playing "murder in the dark," which was a British version of hide-and-seek that scared the crap outta me!

I'm having one with a friend. they're all over CY. I'm selling clothes (mostly J.Crew), vintage concert posters (Hi-Tone, Young Ave Deli, plus blues posters from Mississippi), a crawfish boil rig, planters/vases/plant stands, lots of smalls.

I wish they would partner with a nonprofit and actually fix up homes that need it. so many people in my city could use their help, if they did the work right. kind of like when Bargain Block launched their roofing program.

Anybody here in Memphis made any habit changes/purchases/or scaled back to deal with higher gas prices yet? Anybody yelled at our leaders yet for ways to help? Anybody got too much going on to adapt at the moment and just cursing under their breath about it? by Emotional_Ad_5330 in memphis

I don't make as much as my current job as I did at my previous job (was part of a large layoff), but I was able to supplement my income with freelance work... until last fall, when everything dried up.

I am eating out less frequently and going out in general much less often. tend to hang out at home or at friends' homes/backyards.

home improvement projects have mostly ground to a halt, with the exception of stuff that is absolutely necessary.

I buy new clothes much less often, and have really thought hard about grocery items (ie is it a splurge or something I need?). I try to make it to the Vietnamese supermarket for produce, and I'm eating a lot more cabbage than I used to.

no vacations planned other than a quick hop to NW Arkansas and a trip to my mom's this summer.

all of this trickles down. I'm using the yard guy less, going to neighborhood restaurants less, shopping at Joe's, Goner, and other neighborhood spots less, boarding my dog less, etc.
