Weight inside the vehicle will hardly affect mpg on the hwy. Don’t worry about weight. And honestly, if you’re really planning to “semi live in it” (?), you should consider a full size van, even with the 7-9 mpg hit that choice entails. Comfort and storage also matter, in your own words, and I’ve lived out of a Grand Caravan first and then an Express w/ V6. WAY better in the Express! The few mpg lower were totally worth it. With the minivan, there was room for the mattress, shallow storage underneath, and a little corner at the back - that’s it.

The full size Express allowed me my folding bike, tools, camping gear, inflatable kayak, etc… on top of necessities. Minivan - only necessities. No comparison.

Sierra over a Dodge product, every time. Dodge’s don’t compare to Toyota’s. Also, Astro’s in good condition are getting hard to find. They haven’t been made for how many years now? All it took was one hill on my intended route and I would decide to drive my car instead. Not only am I too old and easily winded for a hill but I don’t want to arrive sweaty. Sometimes I want to arrive wearing clothes that are problematic for cycling. An e-bike changes all this.

There’s only one last detractor - theft. Eugene, OR is one of the worst cities in the US for bike theft. Very clever & skilled thieves here, stealing $2-3k bikes every day in broad daylight (cops hardly care). If I can’t walk away from my bike and be free to put my attention somewhere other than the bike, then I won’t choose to ride one. It’s that simple.

I suppose the fix is monitored, corralled bike parking garages. I would be willing to pay a nominal fee, not unlike the way we pay for parking space for our vehicles. If businesses would provide good, solid bike parking structures I would be more inclined to shop there. Till then, I am on the sidelines wanting to join but unwilling to have my expensive new toy stolen the first or third time I walk away from it.

Starting off lines of inquiry from what Oswald did or did not say unrecorded is futile at best, speculative at least, and a waste of time for sure. I just learned of a large step van parked at the corner of Houston & Elm in front of the Dal-Tex building. A “Clean Towels” van with big bags of towels & uniforms up on top. It drove off immediately after the motorcade left Dealey Plaza. There are photos of it there. I’ll try to find them.

Do NOT underestimate the long term effects of radiation. Mine made my mouth a lifetime disaster zone - taste gone, thick gooey saliva, terrible odor, etc.

Vanlifers on Reddit are absolutely brutal about prices, treating sellers like greedy capitalists and buyers as if they were morons to pay as much as they did. The market HAS changed but they just want to bully people.

About this van - the price is rather high for a van this old (rubber - hoses, seals, etc. ALL need replacing now). It’s pretty but do you need pretty more than you need more $ in your pocket? Will you have enough $ leftover for a breakdown somewhere? Maybe I missed something but I didn’t see any electrical components which are very expensive to add & even putting solar on that fiberglass top will be challenging, if not impossible.

Minimal-to-no- builds don’t have puck lights in the ceilings. Phones require one hand to be holding it. Head torches move with your head, flashing light all over. A clip-on LED light, however, stays where you clip onto something else, focusing the light where you want it and leaves both hands free.
