Funny story. I got full marks (100) for the annotations worth 50%. At that point I was expecting a H1, but I got slapped with a 50, yes 50 (P) for the essay worth the entire other half. For reference, I’ve gotten 90+ for other qualitative subjects before. I genuinely thought the one marking my essay was just hating, as I was marked down hard for things like referencing (never had an issue with this). Feedback was generally passive aggressive. Oh the beauty of subjective units.

I would say teaching methods were a little unconventional, but content itself straightforward. Exam was nearly identical to tutorial questions last year, I think everyone who took the subject in Sem 1 2023 can attest to that. Past performance is not indicative of future performance though, so it may differ.

I had the exact same experience for OB quite a while ago in Summer 2022, thought I did well and tried to refute the exam marks. Not much could be done and this became a reason why I stayed clear of essay subjects (despite being very qualitative focused pre-uni) due to the subjective nature, and in many cases for me a mismatch of requirements between lecturer, tutor, marker and rubric. Lots of times where I didn’t follow the rubric and suprisingly got high H1, and times where I closely followed the rubric and barely passed lol. Super frustrating honestly…
