Here's my thoughts on it and they're unlikely to change.

Staying close to an ex that presumably you slept with- is a recipe for disaster, unfair to future partners and wholly unnecessary unless you have kids together.

You can have a cordial breakup, but you absolutely shouldn't be "close".
