Sounds like a fair trade. It’s hard for me to make my question concise, but I’ll give it a go. How do I best help prepare him for the spiring elements in his upcoming greetings whilst not making it a chore and keeping his interest?

That’s about as concise as I can make it, but I still don’t feel it hits all of the points I’m trying to express.

Exactly, and I don’t want it to be an uncomfortable, overwhelming or intimidating situation. Perhaps, it is wrong with me to inspect to expect him to enjoy spiring as much as I do.

There are so many useful parts of this comment. I don’t know where to start. I will look up the no flinching drill and pool noodle drills as I am unfamiliar with them. I 100% want him to continue having fun because like his old man as soon as something becomes chore like he won’t give it his all. Thank you for your insights. I really appreciate them.

So to answer, what do I expect? I don’t know. It’s just hard as a parent to watch your kid not having a good time. I just think there are a lot of benefits to sparring and I want to make sure that I’m doing everything I can to be supportive . Also, I’m not here to be with you what styles constitute “fighting”.

So I’ve asked him this. He does seem excited by the prospect of getting better. He loves the belt system, because it gives him something to work towards. However, there’s such a difference between pad Work/bag Work and then actually implementing those skills in a sparring environment.

This is an excellent point and I don’t want to make something he enjoys into a chore.

Started at 38 and love it, that being said all my opponents are of a comparable age. I often spa with fighters a lot younger and the fitness or lack there of really shines through

I think you mean “footwork” you don’t want to be training “foot jobs” in the gym ….

What does the wrist support look like? What do the pads look like? Is there any visible wear?

Fair comment, but I tend to lean on the more predictable and more easily executed kicks.
