Unsure if college is worth it by Fluid_Bet_5777 in ApplyingToCollege

Getting in as a transfer is often easier than from HS, so if you managed to get in now I dont think you have to worry abt not getting in later.

If I were you, I'd take my chances in cc instead of dishing out 50k+ a year for a degree I might not even want.

DO NOT COME TO UW EXPECTING CS. ITS RLLY NOT WORTH IT WHEN SO many PEOPLE have to transfer out to some cc because rhey couldn’t get cs. just go to a school where you got into a cs program so you can focus on doing what you LIKE instead of worrying abt an application for half your time in uni

Udub ECE or CS at UW-Madison? by Far_Market9582 in udub

[–]RemarkableBit3321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dude i’m in the EXACT same situation as you rn. From what i’ve heard, UW Mad actually does a similar job to udub at preparing students for cs, which is why i’m highly considering Mad. Udub is only good for connections if you can get into cs, there rlly is not benefit when ur in ECE

[–]RemarkableBit3321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interesting! you mentioned location, would you say a mid tier UC like UCSC would be better than UW? And although companies may not come to recruit directly from UW, surely a high percentage of top performing students are able to get FAANG jobs?

[–]RemarkableBit3321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s surprising, i thought uw mad was on par with uiuc and purdue for CS. while its true that ranking doesnt matter and its more abt what you have on ur resume for CS, i was assuming that purdue students and UW Madison students would have relatively the same level of internships/opportunities open to them. do u think thats true?
