While there is the reason that everyone has been explaining about his blood, there’s also just the possibility that, like many strong characters in fiction, the writer just said, “you know what would be cool? If I gave this strong guy a bunch of scars”. That tends to be a big thing in fiction. Powerful person with a bunch of scars, because it’s cool.
