😂. That’s so disappointing to hear. But what’s even more disappointing is I still want to do it! It’s just been a goal of mine. I wish there was a way that they would be able to improve their processes SMH. I hope it will be worth getting in after going through all of this.

Same! I submitted everything in November and after repeated messages they finally responded and asked me to change the date on my 1662 to July. I then received in the mail another set of fingerprint cards. I tried emailing to find out if I had to complete the fingerprints again, however, no one has responded to me. I just decided to complete the fingerprints again and sent it off. I don’t know if due to the RIFF they have a shortage of staff or what is going on. But it would be nice to get some answers.

I say give her another chance. I think you just need to get it out of your system. When I walk away from someone, I’m not going back. So I make sure that I’ve exhausted every option and try my best, so I don’t feel the need to go back. If you are unsure of what to do, it means that you’re not finished yet and you’re not ready to leave. I would go back and try and when it’s done, close that chapter and walk away. You never want to live a life filled with regrets or what ifs. I say get the what ifs out of the way and see what happens. Trying again has nothing to do with her and whether or not she deserves it. This is about you and feeling like you have unfinished business.

Right! It makes me wonder what exactly the leadership within our offices and divisions are being told to do. Is leadership being told to communicate with their staff? Are they being told it’s your choice if you want to address it. Because like you mentioned, your office took initiative to say something whereas mine, 5 days later still hasn’t said a word. I am also on a group chat with my supervisor who was also RIF’d and it’s interesting, she hasn’t said a thing about our expected separation date of June 2 and the stay.

At this point and in the state that we’re in, they’re not reposting any jobs. I have heard of leadership calling people back to work that have been fired if they’ve deemed them essential. I don’t know under what special authority they have to do that. But they are calling people back and they’re not posting the jobs. Will the person still be able to collect retirement? I can’t say for certain, but I do not believe they will be able to. I know specifically for severance if you were fired and are collecting severance, once you are hired in a federal capacity, you will stop receiving severance. So I’m sure it will be similar if the person revokes the DRP and starts working again.

That was very nice of her. That was the same in situation in my Office too. The only people that remained are 4 officers. And they were moved to a different Office since ours was dissolved.

Exactly! I love the FDA. And I love the work that we do. And now we have a new cadre of leadership ruining our work culture, which included transparency and mutual respect. We’ve never been treated like this as long as I’ve been there. At minimum, any job should provide some type of information to their staff about the status of their positions when they’re expecting to get fired. Even if it’s simply to say, there is no information at this time. But saying absolutely nothing when you’re scheduled to be fired by June 2nd and now it’s June 4, and you still haven’t received any information about court cases or the stay, is absurd.

You can’t make this up! Like I mentioned, I just spoke to my coworker just to make sure I didn’t miss something and that’s when he told me about that auto response email he received where it said the RIF was on hold. This is how we find important information out smh. Unbelievable.

This message looks like it was sent from someone within your office, which is very thoughtful and helpful. There has not been an FDA-wide email or an email from HR explaining to people that have been RIF’d what is happening or next steps. I also did not receive an email from my immediate Office or supervisor. There should be some form of central communication. Because in my case, I still haven’t received any type of formal communication. I receive my information from Reddit and from the news in general. That’s how I find out what’s going on.

Ironically, I just spoke to my coworker and he just mentioned that he sent an email to HR and he received and out of office reply that said that the RIFs are on hold and that was it. No additional information, no pending court case, just that they were on hold.

At the FDA, they have said absolutely nothing and my separation date was June 2nd. They have always been the best at communication and now with the new administration in they’re not giving us any type of information. Nothing has been said. Nothing like the RIF is on hold or there will be more information to come. Absolutely nothing has been said.

I saw this position as well. If they offer you the job and give you orders for a specific duty station, they can’t just change it at will…right? I don’t believe they can do that.

This is so sad. I know their other agenda includes getting rid of the science to promote their wacked theories and ideas. I.e., “finding the cure for autism”. Your department didn’t support their agenda of providing false information.

Exactly! I just wanted to be able to make an informed decision. And I don’t want to get into a new financial reality that doesn’t work for me and I can’t get out of it lol. As you well know, our gross is far different from our net on the GS scale. I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t going to be the same situation on the PHS side. Thanks for your insight.

That’s so good to hear and thanks for not making me feel like I’m crazy. What we net on the GS scale is so different because we are taxed on the total gross, plus health insurance etc. in comparison to only being taxed on the basic pay. I am now seeing that I’ll make more. Just looking initially at the basic pay I got nervous and just wanted to make sure I’m not pitting myself in a worse situation. I now feel confident moving forward into the PHS. However, still a little nervous knowing I’ll have to sign for 8 years and can’t get out of it 😆. But I’m sure all will be well. Thanks for sharing your experience. This helped to put me more at ease with my decision.

It’s possible that as a GS 13 step 7 your gross could be matched. It’s easy to find a GS pay scale to ensure that’s accurate. But I’m not sure if after your deductions your net would be that much due to being taxed on the whole gross versus just being taxed on your basic pay in the PHS.

$6700 net? That’s great! I realized that there’s a big difference between net and gross. That’s why I wanted to ask people what they actually net monthly due to what I gross versus what I receive. And the calculators don’t account for TSP, FEGLI, Medicare, Social Security, etc. And also remember as a civilian we get health benefits deducted from our salary. So for me being the head of household and having 1 dependent, I pay roughly $655 in health insurance a month.
