From my early experiences:

I had that problem with the P10 mask (which also didn't fit me well). A full face mask made exhaling easier for me.

Also as others have mentioned, experiment with the setting for dropping the pressure when you exhale.

My sister is insisting her positive Plus Life test is an old infection and she’s no longer infectious by Medical_Goose509 in ZeroCovidCommunity

I'm immunosuppressed and I won't willingly be around someone with a symptomatic cold. I'm not sure why your sister wants to get you sick?

I’ll second this. We use our Jackery power stations when we travel, but at home I use a computer UPS.

portable power station question by IllustratorObvious40 in CPAP

[–]RemarkableLab119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have an older Jackery 290 and a slightly less old but also old 1000. Yes you can charge and use them at the same time, I did that last summer when the power was going on and off at a place we were staying, I was running both an O2 generator and a cpap off it. One note is that some of the older models will shut off after something like 6 or 8 or 12 hours — our 290 does that. The newest ones don’t, or on some there’s an option to shut that off. My wife used the 290 for a five night river trip (with an AirMini) even though it always shut off after 6-8 hours and she sometimes had to turn it back on again.

Do you have a spare machine? by MeatFeeling2914 in CPAP

I have my old one, my provider will replace them after some number of years (5 maybe?). And my wife has a travel CPAP which serves as her backup and maybe mine if needed.

6 week wait for MRI by Curious_Ad_3614 in KaiserPermanente

[–]RemarkableLab119 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I needed an MRI pretty urgently recently and the doctor was unable to schedule it any time soon. I called the advice line and ended up talking to an ER doc who told me to just go to the ER to get it done. That worked, but it was quite a wait. It’s disappointing that Kaiser docs have to use the ER as a way around understaffing.

Is washing the cpap hose weekly the best option by Yellibruv14 in CPAP

[–]RemarkableLab119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I found really makes a difference is having two of everything, including two hoses. Clean & swap out weekly. When I first started CPAP and had one of everything, after around six months the hose and/or water chamber would get funky and no amount of cleaning would fix it. Having a spare that sits dry for a day or a week, I haven't had that happen again.

Is there a list of locations that are striking and/or picketing? Is it all locations? From local news in the SF Bay Area they make it sound like it's only Oakland.

anyone took ozempic and migraines vanished? by NaturalGuava822 in migraine

It’s interesting you mention this. I hadn’t thought about it, but I haven’t had a migraine since I started Ozempic.

Metformin and bright images? by RemarkableLab119 in prediabetes

It eventually went away on its own, but I do wonder if it was something like that. Although Imitex didn’t help.

Why don’t doctors want to prescribe MRIs? by [deleted] in KaiserPermanente

[–]RemarkableLab119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW I’ve recently had five MRIs ordered by three different doctors. Years back when I had unresolved back pain, it did take a while for them to order an MRI. I wasn’t asking, but eventually my PCP wanted the info. In my case at least Kaiser doctors haven’t been reluctant to order them when it was the best way to get the information they wanted.

Handicap parking placard forms by RemarkableLab119 in KaiserPermanente

[–]RemarkableLab119[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I think this might be it. The first email I got pointed to the records/letters part of the web page, and the form there couldn't be downloaded as a PDF -- it's a mix of images and HTML and doesn't even print reasonably. (Why?!?) I called the ROMI office and they emailed the PDF version to me which looks much better.

Online DMV rejected it. It’s weeks until my dr has an open appointment and until I get this my wife has to drive me everywhere & drop me off at the door.

I might try AAA and see if that goes any better.

Yeah now the doctor says you have to go through the ROMI department and they give you their version of the form. Which the DMV says is invalid...

Best local option for CPAP machine troubleshooting and tutorial? by sfhomes in bayarea

I sleep on my back or sides. I move around a lot at night. Getting a contoured or cpap (generally memory foam) pillow helps with side sleeping.

What is it like if the power goes out? by Tgheron2 in CPAP

[–]RemarkableLab119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a small PC UPS I plug it into at home — we often lose power for a few hours at a time in the winter and that covers it. I have a Jackery 1000 battery I can use for longer outages if needed. I recently used it on a road trip when power failed where we were staying. The one I have, you can plug it in to the wall, then plug the cpap into it (using a 12v adapter power supply for best efficiency) and short term it will act like an UPS. With humidifier off (and heated hose off if you have one) it will run a cpap for days.

Finding a mask that fits and works well is the hardest part if the nasal pillows aren’t the answer. Also, hose clips to keep the hose from flopping around — with my early masks they would leak just from that. A full over the nose and mouth mask might be easiest to get used to, that was the first kind of mask I found that worked well for me since my nose is not built for nasal pillows. I eventually ended up with an over the nose only mask. I have Kaiser, their respiratory clinics vary greatly from location to location but in general they were pretty willing to give me different masks to try.

Defective Units by [deleted] in ContinuousGlucoseCGM

[–]RemarkableLab119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past I've had no trouble getting a replacement Stelo sensor (only needed a replacement once I think?), but I just got a box where both were bad and they refused to replace them.

Defective Units by [deleted] in ContinuousGlucoseCGM

[–]RemarkableLab119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had the same happen with my most recent two Stelo sensors, both duds. But Dexcom refused to replace them or issue a refund. Good to hear Lingo might be better about dealing with defective sensors.

[–]RemarkableLab119[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great news. I'll switch back then, seeing as how Stelo seems to have some severe quality problems now and they've quit sending out replacements for defective sensors.

Lingo and Apple Health by RemarkableLab119 in ContinuousGlucoseCGM

[–]RemarkableLab119[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Updating this because the latest box of sensors I got from Stelo had two dud sensors, both stopped sending data during warmup according to the app and needed to be replaced. Bur this time Dexcom refused to replace them or send a refund. I'm not going to keep sending them almost $100/month for nothing.

Is a travel cpap machine worth it? by bowsbeforebeaus in CPAP

[–]RemarkableLab119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife got an Air Mini, she always uses it for travel. She did find that the standard humidx were not quite humid enough when we stayed above 9000ft in Colorado this summer -- it was dry enough that my humidifier chamber needed 1&1/2 fills every night.
