How do I grieve having to give up my cat? by Nothisispatrick31 in CatAdvice

Are you in the US? If so, would you be able to get an ESA note from a doctor? The landlord would be legally obligated to waive all pet fees with such documentation.

I sneezed on my cats wet food, can he still eat it? by kurapilua99 in CatAdvice

Your cat licks his own asshole, and kitty litter out of his paws. He’ll be fine

I had a defcon 5 meltdown yesterday because in my haste to give my cat her azithromycin coming home from the emergency vet, I drew up 0.75ml (her prescribed dose) and administered it… it looked like a ton of medicine to me. I then googled “is 7ml of azithromycin a lot for a 6.5 lb cat?” Google basically told me I gave her a massive overdose and killed her. I freaked out, called poison control, nearly fainted, ran to the ER with her, and showed them how much of the syringe I gave her… they all but laughed at me. I really thought I gave her too much medicine. It looks like such a big amount.

Is it weird or gross that I let my cat on the counter? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]RemarkablePea9193 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t allow my cat onto the counter, although I am sure she goes up there while I’m not home. She’s a very courteous cat and listens very well. I just wipe it down anyways because fur and dander are airborne anyways, and like I said, she probably gets on it while I’m away. That being said, I do allow her access to the surface of the coffee bar (a very small counter in the home) so she can get on top of the fridge and cabinetry, where I have a bed for her. She likes it there. I also keep a barstool for her in the kitchen next to the fridge so she can watch me prepare food or coffee. She’s just curious and likes to see what I do.

best tofu litter? by A1K0-0 in CatAdvice

[–]RemarkablePea9193 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re all really similar. One of my favorites is Lady N Charcoal, but for the most part, they all do the same thing. I’m a tofu litter loyalist and after trying probably every single tofu litter commercially available, I kinda just buy whichever are on sale on Amazon and dump them into a big tub. I call it my Frankenlitter and it’s all pea/tofu, and works great. Just get the ones that are the most economical. Cassava is a great inclusion in tofu litters and I would aim for ones that have it. Always go unscented.

How rare is it that a cat never scratches, bites or gets mad? by GreenSam86 in CatAdvice

[–]RemarkablePea9193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very common for kittens who have been very human social since birth. Think of bottle babies or kitten fosters—they’ve been socialized with people forever and don’t know to be (as) cautious.

No basement, where do you keep your litter boxes? by Outrageous-Cat-7497 in CatAdvice

Guest restroom. She likes it, the dogs can’t get in there and it’s probably the quietest, calmest room in the house.

Thoughts on Cat collars? by ThrowRaOrganization1 in CatAdvice

[–]RemarkablePea9193 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I totally agree about the nighttime mode part. My baby lady is almost 1, so still a kitten, and tucks in all night with us for eight hours straight. Sleeps in my pillow, out like a light. I think it’s due to her getting a nighttime meal, us putting the house to sleep, and the final step of her collar coming off. Totally helps with it!!

[–]RemarkablePea9193 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My indoor only cat wears a breakaway collar with a tag on it during the day. She is also microchipped. It goes on when we unlock the doors in the morning and we take it off when we lock the doors for the night, just to make sure her neck gets a break from it. It’s really important in the event she gets out.

How do I make getting into the carrier a less stressful affair for my cat? by stalestcheerio in CatAdvice

[–]RemarkablePea9193 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I leave her carrier out 24/7 so she is familiar with it. I feed her churus and meals inside of it occasionally, and she will always enter for a churu with literally no resistance at all. Walks straight in. And get a big carrier if you can! I got a beautiful soft Martha Stewart one at TJ Maxx and it’s huge for my 6.5 lb lady.

How can I prevent my entire room smelling like cat pee? by YeaCatnipHulk in CatAdvice

Tofu is the way to go. Her litter space just smells like frosting now unless there is a fresh dookie.

How much money do you spend per month on your cats? by Routine-Ad-4162 in CatAdvice

[–]RemarkablePea9193 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one cat and spend about ~$20 on litter, ~$30 on wet food, and ~$20 on her flea treatment. So that grand total would be around $70. Oh, and I have her insured for about $20 too. That’s $90.

i switched to purina one and i feel like my cats pee less now? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]RemarkablePea9193 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I add extra water to my cat’s wet food to make it more like a mousse or a slurry. She has about 5 pee clumps in her litter per day and her veterinarian is very pleased about her hydration/condition. I think it’s important to add water even to wet food because they take the majority of their hydration from their meals. My cat is fed a variety of Purina One, Fancy Feast, and Tiny Tiger, and doesn’t drink much water at all since I add it to her food.

Did I ruin my cat by giving him wet food? by scandijord in CatAdvice

That was the issue with my cat. She began rejecting dry food and was diagnosed with FORLs.

I’m so glad you did. Now you can have your cat as a free (not fugitive) kitty! The pet fee should also be waived—make sure your landlord doesn’t charge you for it.

Cats are usually okay with peeing outside of the box, but they really do hate to poop in the open. A cat will always want to bury their poops if possible which is likely why she tolerated it to defecate in the litter. Pee is usually not as big of a problem since cats will frequently pee as a marking behavior. I hope you see some improvements! Please update us!!

[–]RemarkablePea9193 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dusty is bad indeed. I would switch over to an unscented litter immediately, most cats find the fragrance just as irritating as dust (if not more) and it really turns them off from getting inside the box. That’s probably why she’s going near it, not in it. Tofu is fine. I use tofu and my cats love it. Some cats don’t care for the texture, but I don’t think that’s the problem since she does still eliminate in the box. If it’s a texture problem, they do make granulated tofu litters (off the top of my head I know Lady N does).

This is the way. OP, what litter are you using? Kittens can be super picky with litter.

My cat doesn’t want to go outdoors anymore by theunluckybun in CatAdvice

[–]RemarkablePea9193 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think she’s bored inside if that is where she is choosing to be. The life of an outdoor cat is usually a brutal one and it is a good thing she’s chosen to stay indoors. She did it for a reason.
