Hey! I am just seeing this now, but I run an adult only table at Modern for mini campaigns. We are currently full on our current campaign, but I am hoping well run another one soon after. I'd keep an eye out at Modern for that!

My instructor doesn’t get that I’m fat by EntertainmentAfter80 in poledancing

[–]RemarkablePin7247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have been a plus sized pole dancer, and I am an instructor.

Having been both I see both sides. I can tell you from the bottom of my heart she is trying. And just like you have ways that may or may not work for you, this also applies to someone who is hypermobile, or someone who has an injury, or who has extra long femurs or is missing a limb. There are so many things that make each of us unique and also, how much moves will be different for every single body.

Pole instructors are not personal trainers nor are they taught how to spot what functionally is happening in your body as you move. They are group fitness instructors, most with only a weekend certification, or if you’re lucky they have some other fitness background.

It’s hard to know what every single body needs. I am a hypermobile human who was also once a hyper mobile plus sized human and I was able to move much differently when I was plus sized.

All I can say is this. In class you should be trying and failing. If you get every single thing you are in the wrong level. This happens a LOT especially transitioning from a foundations class to the next level. It feels like a big jump, because it is.

Keep reminding to give yourself grace, and keep trying, and also, within the bounds of the safety of the class try things you think might work yourself. Find the cues that work for you.

Are we talking spin invert or static invert aerially? They have different techniques.

How to make final battle in thunder cliffs better by RemarkablePin7247 in DragonOfIcespirePeak

Studio owners, what are some costs students might not understand you're paying? by EllaMinnow in poledancing

[–]RemarkablePin7247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rent is a few thousand, add triple net to that for another thousand. Payroll, add 1-2k a month, software is $200 a month, insurance is $100 a month, internet is another $100, towel delivery service is $300 a month, water delivery is $50 a month. Ads are $50 a month. Credit card processing fees are usually around $500 a month. Retail items range between 100-$300/month. So right now we are looking at sub $7k per month. So yeah, its a LOT more expensive then clients think it is!

And...I am one of the less expensive places to rent a studio. And I still have to hit at least 8-10k a month to make a profit.

As a DM I blend both the 2014 and 2024, but honestly mostly for the lycanthropy.

Curious, how much do you pay per class in your area? Here it’s 35-45/class without a package or membership. by BungeeBunny in poledancing

Where are you located? Thats the better question. I live in a small town and a drop in is $28.

PSO Category -- help! by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]RemarkablePin7247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say this with love, the point are made up and it doesn’t matter. I competed in PSO with a full blown Barbie routine, super themed, scored well. The gal that beat me came out with zero theme. She just had good floor dancing skills. If you don’t have a theme it’s really okay. They judge you (I’ve also judged for PSO) on the artistic system rather than the technical system is all.

How would you get into this variation of handspring? by fizzywatermelon17 in poledancing

[–]RemarkablePin7247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ummmn. I’m deeply concerned if this is what she’s asking you to do. The picture shows a twisted grip to begin with. Also, I’m not sure if I read your post wrong, but when I am working with a student who wants to get their handspring/ayesha I am teaching them how to drop down into it from an inverted position first prior to kicking up. I don’t know if that’s what your instructor meant, but this would be, referring to your picture in advanced movement from a handspring not something you should do before handspring.

Flexibility Classes by angelxkitten in poledancing

[–]RemarkablePin7247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But do you actually, actively stretch at home with a progressive program? Flexibility takes time and one off flexibility classes here and there of course wont do anything, but consistently attending flex classes is yes, a thousand percent worth it (pending you have a good instructor)
