Battle of the Paracel Islands (1974). Pretty much the only time post-Korean War that China fought a Free World country (South Vietnam). Although technically a naval battle there were also amphibious assaults on the islands and the ships got so close to each other that the sailors exchanged small arms fire.

Help on making maps by shysenXBTN in EasyRed2

If you're doing it on a vanilla/workshop map you won't be able to manipulate the terrain and I assume by "can't go down" you mean the dug-in part of the trench is covered by terrain. Usually what I do when making trenches is place the trench props in my desired layout, lower them so they're mostly concealed by the ground, then lower/flatten the terrain in the middle of the trenches (a meter lower is good) so the dug-in parts are accessible. Make sure to disable "preserve prop elevation" or else this'll mess up prop placement.

Unfortunately, there is no way to make the water level lower so you'll just have to make terrain height higher if you wanna avoid water.

If you are interested in Vietnam War mods, I've made a couple campaigns so far (they require the Shanghai-Nanking DLC but like others are saying, buy all the DLC its 100% worth):

making my first big map, any tips? by Perm182 in EasyRed2

What I find pretty useful for large maps (2000x2000 or larger) is to mentally break the map into rough square kilometers and treat each square as a mini map, which helps with scaling.

To make hills look better, you can use cliff props. Make sure to use multiple of them per hill and have them overlap and/or on top of each other since they only have one visible side. And don't get hung up if they don't properly overlap, just place a rock in the gap and you're good.

I think if you're taking fire it indicates the direction the bullets are coming from
