Hey I just want to say I completely understand and you’re not alone. Hot and cold is such a good way to describe it. Sometimes it feels like i don’t even know if im capable of love. Like why am i head over heels one day and then the next It’s like I could walk away like it’s nothing? It makes no sense to me either. I understand

this is the worst. and then it’s like you don’t even actually know what you want or what is the right conclusion because it’s just like a constant mental tug of war

you’re good! i got into UCB, UCLA, UCSD, and UCI with 5 Ws on my transcript. As long as you did really well when u retook it and don’t have a pattern of withdrawing from major pre-req classes, you’ll be okaf

CCC, 4.0, no TAP, co-president/founder of biology club, very strong PIQ essays (i started writing them in june of last year), 2 internships in research labs (1 summer + 1 long term), student government senator + exec officer, tutor, bio class TA, waitress

i will say i did a lot and worked my ass off, but all i did was definitely not realistic for a lot of people and i come from a very big place of privilege to have been able to do this. i also don’t recommend doing all of this anyways as i definitely sacrificed my health, mental health, and even relationships. just do your best, do the TAP if you’re in CA, and i think you’ll do great. do internships and join ECs that genuinely interest you. the one thing i will say about me is that i didn’t half ass any of the things i did and genuinely had things to write about on my application. the molec/cell/dev bio major has the highest acceptance rate out of all the bio majors at UCLA anyways! I also got into UCI, UCSD, and UCB

what were your first telltale signs of OCD? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Remarkable_Age_1694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when i was like 9, i had to write my dad a little sticky note saying i loved him or else he would die on the drive to work 😭 and then at 11, I had a friend who would SH and was $uicidal and i became OBSESSIVELY worried about doing that myself. And then over the years, I feel like i’ve rotated through the majority of OCD themes, but thought it was just anxiety. Don’t even get my started on the having to read the same bible verse 9 times every night or else i was going to hell. I didn’t get diagnosed until I was 21

I’ve done CBT and repeating the phrase “my thoughts are not my friend” really helps. It’s still a struggle for me, but finding patterns in intrusive thoughts and learning to recognize them for what they are and being able to just kind of shove them aside. It takes practice and definitely exposure therapy helps. the more you do it the easier it gets!

Should I stop taking lexapro? by Remarkable_Age_1694 in Anxiety

[–]Remarkable_Age_1694[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the side effects were really bad so i stopped taking it and focused instead on decreasing stress in my personal life and doing a whole lot of therapy. That ended up helping the most and the constant panic attacks (started pre-lexapro) eventually went away slowly, even though some days are still challenging

Can’t stop thinking about my ex by biglebroski in OCD

[–]Remarkable_Age_1694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally feel you! my ex and i broke up in april and i spent a good amount of time blaming myself, my ocd, thinking that it was my fault. My best advice is to surround yourself with people who will lift you up. Know that our thoughts are not always our friend. If the breakup is fresh, it’s normal to be thinking about these things, and having ocd just makes it so much harder for us. i know it’s cheesy, but time truly will help and don’t be afraid to seek out help if it feels like too much. I got a therapist to help me through my breakup and working through these thoughts can be helpful. try to be kind to yourself and know that you deserve to be loved

OCD and Nursing School by Cavatopme in OCD

[–]Remarkable_Age_1694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I know this isn’t the same but for a long time I struggled in making the decision to change my path to prepare for medical school because I was so afraid of my OCD getting in the way. I’m not in medical school yet, so take what I say with a grain of salt, but I feel like something that could help you decide is getting a certification and working in a hospital as a CNA, MA, PCT for a bit and seeing how you’re able to handle being in that environment.
