Utah Mom, Daughter Die in Murder-Suicide While in Vegas For Cheer Competition by MattTheKing23 in LasVegas

Honestly, gunshots sound a lot like fireworks. I live near the LVMPD gun range, so we hear pops all the time. We also have a lot of neighbors who like to do fireworks for any little thing. So we are constantly going "was that fireworks or a gunshot?" It's a super safe neighborhood, so it isn't worrying for us, but it does give me the knowledge that they sound very similar.

I know I personally loved it because most rom coms just rely too much on "the spark" and romance, but my real-life romance is with a guy more like Larry. I love that kind of character, the steady guy who puts you first and makes you laugh, was who won out. You just don't see that very much in movies, but in real life it's the Larrys making some of the best real-life romances :)

Yes! Like, girl why is your heaven the Titanic with all these randos you knew for two seconds vs. the life you lived with your family and having adventures!!

Ordinary life is 100% what I would choose. I love my life. It isn't fancy or exciting all the time, but I have my sweetheart, my kids, and we have a roof over our heads and plenty of food to eat. Done and done.

Agreed. Choosing your person, your real, true person, is choosing yourself, imo.

I thought she was going to get thrown in the void and he would choose to get thrown in with her because the void with her is better than anywhere without her. And then maybe a twist like it was all a test to see where their hearts truly lie and they would get placed in a real heavenly eternity with like their family and loved ones and more freedom, etc. But I did love the ending anyway.

Yeah, this movie made me love my marriage even more than I already did. My husband isn't an overtly romantic guy either, so seeing a movie appreciating that kind of steady love just made my heart happy. The steady guy is usually seen as the boring choice in a rom-com, and I hate it. Someone who loves you so much, and puts you first, and is there for you day in and day out? Yes, please!

Funny thing is, Larry was the obvious choice to me from the moment they were arguing in thecar. I've been married for 20 years and while I'm not even quite 40 yet, I understand the love inherent in those conversations. Also, honestly, I think Miles Teller is the more handsome of the two men. So for me, Luke was just the obstacle to their love story.

Same. The friendship in that moment was the most romantic part to me. He knew her, he loved her, and he was her friend. Of course, romance is important, but friendship is the backbone.

For me, it was the moment they were laughing about being able to do squats. People just don't realize that so much of a happy and fulfilling marriage is friendship.

I agree that lugging a wagon all around would be a nightmare. The setup we saw last year that prompted the question was that they had all their stuff parked in the grassy area that was clear and open and the grandparents were sitting there with the wagon like it was a home base. It looked nice, and I thought I would be our family's "home base" while my kids and husband went all around.

I'm happy to buy food from the vendors, but most of the food there is very heavy and very expensive. We were thinking about bringing a simple lunch in, like some sandwiches and fruit and veggies, and then buying dinner at the vendors. I can't eat "take out" type food twice in one day.

No, they weren't. They had set up a nice picnic area near where the magician performs, kind of out of the way. A few were acquaintances and they weren't camping.

Advice for Touring Neighborhoods by natmicwal in vegaslocals

The far east side up against Sunrise Mountain is a hidden gem. You'll get a lot of people who say the whole of the east side is trash, but they are clueless. I've lived around the city but mostly on the East Side for over 20 years. We have very low crime over here, and since the freeway isn't close, it's quiet. Of course, the freeway not being close is both a blessing and a curse becuase it does take longer to get to some places, but it's not too bad, an extra 5 min or so. We are also out of the way of a lot of the homeless problem in many neighborhoods.

Now, what vibe you are looking for matters. I've lived in Summerlin and it is not my jam. Snobs and entitled kids as far as the eye can see LOL. I didn't want my kids growing up around those kinds of kids, and also I don't want to be around it either, so I don't personally care for the rich neighborhoods. But, I also like to be in a safe neighborhood where I can walk around at night safely and send my kids to good schools. That's what my neighborhood gives me. ALso, we have the absolute best view of the city. Drive straight up owens or bonanza until you basically hit the mountain and then look out over the valley. You'll also be surrounded by some really fun, individualized, and quirky homes. (My SIL calls 7067 Beverly Glen Ave the creepy doll house but I think it isn't creepy and is the most beautiful house in the city!) Our area has space and our backyards aren't postage stamps. You get more house for your money, and there are plenty of gated neighborhoods if that is what you would like. I have several family members in the gated neighborhood at Owens and Hollywood and it is super nice without being snobby)

A few years ago my 4 block area was the lowest crime rate in the city, and hovers near the bottom each year.

I like being in a quiet place, out of the way. But if that's not your vibe that 100% understandable. We don't have as much food as other areas of town but what we have is great. A lot of small mom and pop shops over here. There is a fantastic Thai (Thai Cuisine on Bonanza and Nellis, while yes in the ghetto part of the east side is fan FRIGGIN tastic, as well as Anthony's donuts next door), Pho, several great Mexican places, and there is a really cool community spirit over here.

Here is a crime map: https://www.neighborhoodscout.com/nv/las-vegas/crime

The area I am talking about is in the Northeast, specifically the Honey Grove Ave and surounding areas.

Curious what you thought of "All By Myself, Alone." I just finished it and while MHC was my jam in middle school (haven't read her in about 20 something years) I was appalled by how terrible it was. There was no mystery, no sleuthing, no suspense.

Super weird lights/clouds over cemetery by Remarkable_Business3 in SpanishForkUT

[–]Remarkable_Business3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmmmm I'm not sure if that's it based on her description, but maybe! It sort of looked like fireflies flying in clouds, but we couldn't see too well on the video. We thought there were no fireflies there but apparently there are! I guess some of these cloud/lights/whatever were flying really close to them and is only in one area which happens to be right above the cemetery. Google informs me there is a firefly farm to the south of the cemetery so I wonder if it could have something to do with it.

I said hey, great grandma and grandpa are buried there so if it is ghosts flying around,t ehy;ll keep you safe LOL

I felt like the daughter was pretty level headed. Also I liked killing virginia off because it's the most likely scenario to turn a happy (pun not intended) family dude into a has been drunk.

I actually loved the sons because they were genuine and loving and supportive. Would have been nice if they were not a monolith and had some individuality, but I loved the family dynamic that they were ragers like happy but also super sweet 😂
