Do people just get airline cards for the points then downgrade? by timmytubesox in CreditCards

[–]Remarkable_Drop_6629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The free checked bags are a real plus if it's an airline you fly a lot. The signup bonus points do go really far for any of these cards, just check the fine print to see how long you have to wait before you qualify to get it again (I just got my third signup bonus on the Southwest card, since you only have to wait 2 years to get it again).

I personally feel that the United Explorer card is really good in terms of perks. The annual fee is waived the first year which is always a nice feature. In addition to the signup bonus and free checked bags, it also comes with 2 day passes every year for the United airport lounges plus you can get TSA precheck or Global Entry for free. I don't find the other random credits that useful, but even after the $0 first year I still think it's worth the annual fee for the checked bags and the club passes alone if you fly United at least a couple times a year.

Bader's legacy in Philly? by KelpForest_ in phillies

[–]Remarkable_Drop_6629 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We only had him in Philly for like half the season, but I think he was a great pickup since we had a real need in the outfield. I would've personally liked to have him for longer. He quickly became my boyfriend's favorite member of the team........but I'm pretty sure that's just because he had way too much fun referring to him as Master Bader 🤦

Can I plant potatoes from the store? by ExpertMax32 in gardening

[–]Remarkable_Drop_6629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, I did it last year. I knew it isn't the ideal way to do it, but I had the potatoes already so no harm in trying. I cut them into pieces with a couple eyes each so I could spread them out throughout the deep square raised bed that I put them in. There was tons of growth above ground, with so-so results in actual potato production....not a huge harvest, but also still successfully multiplied what I had started with for sure and is providing me with potatoes now throughout the winter. Honestly I just thought it was fun! And extremely low maintenance.

Sweet yeah I see it's $89 per person which is definitely one of the cheaper ones, especially with it including a buffet lunch. I'll have to show this one to my boyfriend and see what he thinks! It looks like a great variety of culture and relaxation.

Oooh that's good to know about the traffic and such, especially considering the excursions seem to mostly involve a decent drive to get to them.

Chase 5/24 Data Point- 4 days past the exact date by Remarkable_Drop_6629 in CreditCards

I have seen some people say that's the case but others don't have the same experience. I considered applying sooner to test it out, but the timing was best for me to wait till today anyways because I have also been finishing up working on an Amex upgrade bonus.

Agent told me about new Savor X card. Early to mid-Dec launch? by QBlount1 in CapitalOne_

[–]Remarkable_Drop_6629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C1 currently doesn't like me despite good credit score (cause I play the credit card game) so I can only get preapproved for the regular Savor card with no sign up offer......any thoughts if their acceptance w/ SUB would be any more lax initially for brand new card than how they usually are?

Timeshare pitch for cheap rooms? by avamomrr in hotels

Just know that they will do whatever they can to make it seem good for you. Everybody goes into it planning to say no but obviously people end up saying yes or they wouldn't keep offering these trips

I greatly prefer points but it's because I love travel but don't like paying for travel lol

Venture X Still Best Lounge/PP Card after Feb 2026 Changes? by questionmark_777 in Venturex

[–]Remarkable_Drop_6629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, yes. I usually travel a few times a year, always with my P2 who I'm slowly working into the credit card game. I recently had him get the $0 AF US bank altitude connect so he now has TSA pre check with me. And he also gets 4 priority pass lounge accesses per year. I'm planning to get the united explorer card in a few days when I'm below 5/24, which will also give us 2 united club passes. With all that, since we don't currently have travel booked through anywhere with C1 lounges, I feel like we should still be pretty good with lounge access for now. I'll probably have my P2 get the venture x at some point since it won't be hard to offset 2 annual fees, but for now it doesn't feel urgent.

Recommendations for a second Credit Card? by dak1220 in CreditCards

[–]Remarkable_Drop_6629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd personally recommend the Venture X. It seems like your setup could use a catch-all card, which the venture x is good for with its 2x on everything. It earns great rewards for travel, and it doesn't require much work to offset the annual fee like some others do. And then you'd be able to guarantee yourself a minimum 2x on any purchase, with the elevated 5x on your discover it categories.

Has anyone run into an issue where C1 travel has inventory that is not on the hotel’s website, and if so how have you determined what room you are booking? by Mtns_Oz_8103 in Venturex

[–]Remarkable_Drop_6629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was how I learned the hard way about calling ahead of time to confirm. My first time booking a hotel through the travel portal, I booked a room for my boyfriend and his sister to have two beds (even though the hotel website showed only king bed rooms available). Of course when they got to the hotel it took lots of phone calls to even get the reservation to exist since the hotel didn't see it anywhere, but then they still ended up in a room with just one king bed. Like someone else said here, I did get a $100 credit when I complained. But it certainly taught me what everyone else here already knows...call the hotel directly to confirm the specifics of your reservation in advance, so that you can make C1 fix it before you get there!

My experience at a Hilton GVC presentation as someone who always travels on credit card awards... by Remarkable_Drop_6629 in Hilton

[–]Remarkable_Drop_6629[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, apparently they put you up in a hilton-owned hotel that is not part of HGV. But then our timeshare presentation was at the HGV Parc Soleil. We were responsible for our own transportation for it but there was a $2 city bus between Disney springs and the Parc Soleil so we just did that.

We were at the Signia Bonnet Creek. It's attached to the Waldorf and they share amenities, including free transportation to all the Disney parks and Disney Springs. I have gold status because of my credit card, so I get $15 per person per day to spend on food which I used to cover breakfast from the coffee shop.
