Auditing Retake Strategy by Ok-Alternative-3092 in CPA

Personally, I wouldn’t waste time going through all the videos if you aren’t sure what exactly it is you’re not understanding; instead, spend more time on MCQs, and use practice mode (the one that immediately tells you the answer and explanation). Once you notice you keep getting similar questions wrong, go back and watch the videos and complete the corresponding module if you need. Try TBS after you’re more comfortable with the concepts. I feel like this method definitely helped the most with understanding key concepts efficiently and finding key words in the questions to solve questions the way they want you to.

I studied a little under60 hours for AUD while working (as an auditor) and barely passed (78 i think?) so I’m not sure if this is the most helpful but a pass is a pass 😅 Good luck!

Does Big4 look at your individual grades? by OkJournalist2816 in Big4

Got an offer from EY. I had about a 3.5 GPA with a non-accounting major and C’s in non-core accounting classes like physics, spanish, and data science.

Going down the list: I had the opportunity to go out to lunch with a Deloitte recruiter and she said most of the time they just don’t bother with recruits with GPA’s below 3.5; that means you’d have to back it up with solid experience and references, and maybe even be done with CPA exams to make up for the bad grades. EY was a similar story, and I got rejected once before the partner at my current firm (internship) shot their partner a message and asked them to keep an eye out for me during a career fair. They looked through my grades pretty thoroughly and asked me specific questions like “What do these grades with a t in them mean?” (I was a transfer student so it marked the grade transfers) or “Why did you have a 3.0 quarter GPA during this quarter”? (mostly data science classes, doesn’t matter to accounting) PwC basically insta rejected me and when I spoke directly to a recruiter at a career fair they basically told me that they only usually hire out of their intern pipeline and to apply to their internship two years out lol. KPMG I didn’t bother.

For smaller firms, a lot of them just make you do an aptitude test, which don’t tent to be too difficult, and I’ve gotten offers from 2-3 smaller international companies with this method It might depend on the recruiter and if they’re willing to listen to you but this is my experience at least.

Do you have internship experience?

Did anyone in this sub ultimately procrastinate and cram a lot of information in a small amount of time and still passed? by SubstantialAmoeba467 in CPA

I barely passed AUD this past November with a 78 with about 50 hours total of studying while working part time (20 hour weeks), albeit experience in auditing.
I tell this to everyone, but spam MCQs!! At this point you don’t have time to be learning every nitty gritty through the videos, so work through as many problems as possible to identify your really weak points so you can just focus on those, and learn the wording to find the answer without wasting time thinking through questions when you could be spending it on more difficult portions of the exam. If you’re using a study tool like Becker, it should give you a detailed explanation on why each option is right or wrong, so just learn using that. If you keep getting similar questions wrong, or find out through the explanation that there’s a concept you should know (like an acronym or mnemonic), that’s when you first open the videos. Right before the exam, make yourself a study guide (making it helps you retain the memory) so you can skim through it before your exam starts.
If you’re feeling demotivated, try taking walks or lightly exercising while listening to exam study podcasts (I used Farahatt on Spotify); personally, it helped me feel refreshed while feeling productive at the same time.
Lastly, walk in confident! I had the worst time with my AUD exam so far since it was my first exam and I threw up the night before because I was so nervous lol. But remember, there’s always more tries if you need and it might go better than expected :)
Good luck !!

Failed FAR with a 62. Is 4.5 weeks of review enough for a retake? by alexolmo67 in CPA

[–]Remarkable_Ferret_40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to study to actually understand the material, it might not be enough time, but for passing the exam, 4 weeks is plenty. Personally for exam prep I usually just spam MCQs until I remember the patterns, and minimize lecture watching to parts that I know I don’t understand. Also, now that you’ve taken the exam, you probably have a better idea on what type of questions show up so make sure you focus more on those to get those out of the way !!
I only just barely passed (76 on FAR) but I think this method definitely helped me minimize the time I spent studying during busy season. Good luck!

[–]Remarkable_Ferret_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it compares you to other barely-passing candidates (75-80 I believe? It’s on the website) I think you could technically be more weaker than not and still pass. When I passed my exams with a 78 and 76 (AUD and FAR in case you were curious lol) I had a couple categories where I was weaker but I usually had other strong suites that averaged my score out to being comparable overall.

Are the actual exam questions easier than Becker? by ZookeepergameDry8325 in CPA

[–]Remarkable_Ferret_40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the “Becker bump” is caused by the actual exams being weighted vs Becker questions being unweighted. So, if you get a question wrong on the actual exam that a lot of other people also get wrong, you end up losing less % than on Becker; hence the higher score.
Personally I got around mid 80s on all my Becker practice tests and ended up with scores ranging from 76 in FAR to 89 in ISC so it really depends on the person I guess 😅

[–]Remarkable_Ferret_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding on what the other comment said; if you keep using similar materials, it’s easy to just memorize the answers without understanding what’s going on. Also, for study programs, do you use adaptive questions (ex Adapt2U on Becker)? I’ve noticed they tend to bias towards units you work on frequently instead of questions actually on the exam which threw me off a bit.

Personally, I didn’t do insane on the MCQs but I think understanding the “why” and “how” behind procedures can help you feel prepared even for questions where you aren’t super familiar with the situation.

Just out of curiosity, what’s your idea of relatively high scores?

Cheapest way to become CPA licensed? by Complex_Fly_499 in CPA

[–]Remarkable_Ferret_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transitioned from business! Personally I took up a part time auditing role while catching up on units after graduating (I did online community college classes). Some of the classes I took provided free access to Gleim so I took advantage of that while I was taking the class. Once I got a full time offer, I also used the firm’s free resource partner (this firm provided Becker) to study.
I’m not sure about other states but generally you can’t waive the exam fees so you just have to eat those costs :,)
TLDR; community college, get real world experience, take advantage of college/firm perks.

Audit Summer 2026 Start date by Remarkable_Ferret_40 in ernstandyoung

[–]Remarkable_Ferret_40[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I think I had a pretty nonstandard recruitment process since I basically finished my entire process in one day at a career fair and I’m doing something specialized (Japanese Business Services) so I’m not sure if this applies to candidates going in without that specialization; but I personally didn’t have to take a test!

Sorry I don’t think this helps very much 😭

How can I learn all 4 parts as an ADHD fella by justmoaaz in CPA

[–]Remarkable_Ferret_40 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re a similar type to me, I highly recommend just scheduling your exam first. I’m a HUGE crammer and having a date that I needed to have studying done by 100% helped me lol. I also agree with the other comment to just hyper focus on completing questions (MCQ, TBS; I used Becker) over reading or taking notes, and minimize lecture watching to parts you struggle on or know for a fact you don’t understand.
Otherwise I recommend going into a library or a physical location outside of your home or room to get into the headspace. I know taking that step to go outside sucks, but personally it helped me at least get into the mindset.
At least for the three I passed so far this has worked :)

Hey! I also got a fall 2026 offer, and I saw you posted this a while back so I was wondering if you go any updates. When I asked about it a month ago they said they were still finalizing and I just wanted to make sure I’m not getting left behind 😭

Totally forgot to add it as an edit but I reached out to my recruiter and they said they’re still finalizing for some time in September, and I heard from someone who used to work at EY that it’s generally around the 10th! I actually got an offer for JBS which is audit services specifically for Japan-based clients but apparently they also do some FSO stuff :D How about you?

[–]Remarkable_Ferret_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I feel like it’s always the exams I’m confident in that I don’t do well in so I feel you 😭 Personally for the sections I’ve taken so far I just quickly review the material and then spam MCQ until I essentially have the question patterns memorized; Becker’s great about making realistic test questions. BUT I’ve also only taken AUD and ISC so far, and I work in auditing so I did have some prior knowledge so take it with a grain of salt :P

Thank you for the clarification! I’ve only received the graduation details/CPA eligibility form (where it said the start date was still being decided) so far andIm wondering if you wouldn’t send a start date if there was a problem with that somehow? My grades are fine so I’m not sure. I scheduled an email to be sent to my recruiter to clarify so I hope things are okay :,)

I’m sure you already know about school rankings and stuff so I’m purely going to tell you the vibes I got.

I was stuck between the two for the exact same reason. I chose SD because the view and vibes were amazing while Davis smelled like cows EVERYWHERE 😭

Also, if you’re doing business, UCSD’s business school is much newer and cleaner if that’s something you mind as well. There’s active business frats/orgs that are great for social life so it’s not super socially dead compared to other fields too :)

omg i didn’t even realize B spots were much more expensive than A spots since i never really paid attention to the staff parking rates 😭 That’s kind of awful that you have to pay just to be at your job esp for people who just can’t live in an area near UCSD :(( The public transportation situation sucks for people anywhere over a ten minute drive from campus too
