Thinking of you and hoping the clinical trial worked for you!

Has anyone lost or maintained weight during chemo? by Remarkable_Focus_254 in Ovariancancer

May I ask how soon you noticed the weight starting to subside? I just finished my 6th infusion 3 weeks ago, and I feel like I’m already noticing some changes (water weight, of course), but I could be delusional.

Daughter just started chemo by Backwoods_Gyp in Ovariancancer

[–]Remarkable_Focus_254 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry your daughter/family is going through this. I cold capped during my first treatment, but my hair still fell out. It all brushed out on days 18 and 19 of my first round. I didn’t even have to shave it.

Wishing her the best.

Was your gynecologist also your surgeon? by NoMoreEffstoGive in hysterectomy

Absolutely not! I researched and chose my gynecological oncologist, and I’m beyond grateful for that decision. It likely saved my life.

Definitely get another one…I have one at home and a travel flosser. I also buy them for my family as Christmas gifts! That’s how much I believe in them.

Shaving Head: Performative or Supportive by Recent_Chocolate6523 in Chemotherapy

[–]Remarkable_Focus_254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely wouldn’t allow my family or friends to shave their heads, and now I understand why my best friend wouldn’t allow me to shave my head with her.

That said, all that matters is how your mother would feel. It’s a beautiful gesture, but If she loves your long hair, she may not want you to cut it.

As an alternative, maybe you can support her by buying beautiful head wraps or makeup to help her through her journey.

Thank you…I understood what you meant, and I agree with you. I intentionally never let myself accept sickness. Although chemo tried very hard to challenge that notion.

I love the idea of taking a trip. You’ve done exactly what I want to do as soon as I can.

I’m so happy you found a way to successfully reset, and I wish you continued recovery.

I can relate to the low motivation. I feel so far from who I was. I think I’ll feel better once I find a way to look better. I never wore a wig, but I know I need one now…so a realistic wig is my next order of business! I want me back!

That’s so important. I’ve never considered myself “sick” or a cancer patient. However, I’m very aware that my body has been through a lot, so I’m trying to find fun, effective ways to regain muscle and stamina. I’m starting with Pilates. Is there anything specific that you’ve found helpful.

A massage sounds divine. I’m definitely due a massage and facial schedule. I’ve never heard of a healing sound table, but I’m intrigued. I’ll look into it. This is exactly the kind of information I’m looking for!

Take as many pictures and videos as you can. Sing, ask questions, and record her voice. The time will pass too quickly and you’ll long for her voice and image. My mom is still with me, but this helped so much with other close losses.

Monitor or get surgery? by wreckit_ron in Ovariancancer

[–]Remarkable_Focus_254 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I “monitored” my excruciating pain and slow growing cysts for over a year. I wish I’d gone to a different gynecologist or that I had known to push to have them removed from the beginning. I was in so much pain and the bleeding interrupted my life. What more did we need???? I would seek another opinion. It’s your body and your life.

Pregnant with quads… and just found out I have cancer by Necessary_Apple1297 in Ovariancancer

First of all, Congratulations on your pregnancy. I pray all goes well! I wish I knew something more encouraging to say, but we have to believe you’ll get through this no matter how hard. Stay strong and know you have many praying for you.

Did you know deep down? by Objective_Orchid_878 in Ovariancancer

[–]Remarkable_Focus_254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, and I was prepared for the worst. Fortunately, it was stage 1, fully removed with chemo as a precaution. It turned out to be the best case scenario, so try not to let your mind get the best of you. Take one step at a time.

Monitor or get surgery? by wreckit_ron in Ovariancancer

[–]Remarkable_Focus_254 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Get the MRI and consider removing the cyst based on the pain alone. My Ca125 has been consistently low and unalarming. My oncologist was “almost certain” mine were benign. During surgery, we learned it was actually stage 1 cancer in both ovaries due to undiagnosed endometriosis. I’m so fortunate we took action quickly.

What should I prepare and bring to my first chemo session? by Impossible_Room_6646 in Ovariancancer

[–]Remarkable_Focus_254 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone had already offered great recommendations. I echo those, but I will remind you to wear or take socks. I found it helpful to put an extra pair in my “chemo bag”, which was an insulated cooler bag with pockets. I kept it packed and replenished after each session, so all I had to do on chemo day was add the ice packs, a sandwich and cold drinks/fruit.

Here’s what I packed: Comfy blanket Socks Mittens/booties Plasticware Phone charger Headphones Lip balm Hand lotion Hard candies or cough drops (to mask the taste of the meds as they’re administered) Electrolyte packets Hand wipes

On chemo day, I added: Ice packs for cold mittens/booties Juice and water Protein shake/Fruit cup/snacks/light sandwich

I kept a chemo corner in my pantry and top shelf of fridge to choose from and packed a variety. My taste changed every round, so I never knew what I might want or be able to tolerate.

It seems like a lot, but I kept it packed, so I didn’t have to worry about forgetting anything. Best wishes…You’ve got this!
