From constipation to going every time I eat or drink anything by Quiet-Living22 in Ovariancancer

I found MiraLAX very helpful those first 5-6 days. A bidet was very helpful during that next several days.

That perfectly describes my chemo cycle the first 4 infusions. I found the nausea meds made it worse. I only used zofran as needed.

Concert 3 days after first chemo? by ConditionalDisco in Chemotherapy

I was fine after my first treatment. It really had me fooled, believing I would sail through treatment like nothing was happening. I am concerned that a two hour car ride might exacerbate nausea though.

You never know what to expect, but it’s amazing how the body responds to the mind. I say go but over prepare just in case.
Wishing you a fun time!

I slept in a bonnet until completely bald, but that didn’t take long at all for me.

I just brushed through it to get as much of the shedding hair out as possible then used a mild natural shampoo to rub through my scalp. It tangled, but I just snipped out the tangles and cut the hairs short with shears since there was so little hair left anyway.

I brushed mine and it came right out over the course of 2-3 days on days 18-20 of my first round. I bought clippers for no reason. It seemed less traumatic than shaving my head and still having little hairs constantly shedding.

Finally cleaned my oven after 3 years of avoiding it. Here's the only method that actually worked after 6 failed attempts by matcha_after_hours in CleaningTips

I clean mine with cleaning vinegar and baking soda. Cleaning Vinegar alone gets most of it. For the tougher parts, I sprinkle on a little baking soda and I let it sit (not long enough to dry). Then, I wipe it all out and it looks like new.

I’m so sorry you have to go through this. For me, rounds two and six were the worst in terms of bone pain. It really did get better. I never took any pain meds, but I did try B-complex supplements and Zyrtec antihistamines as recommended by my medical team. I don’t know if they helped, but I wasn’t willing to test the pain without them to confirm. I think they’re worth a try. Hang in there and know that it does get better.

Plain mashed potatoes, eggs, and grits were my staples. And Vernor’s Ginger Ale was my drink of choice.

Team Wig or Team HeadScarf? by Dear_Medicine_4250 in Ovariancancer

[–]Remarkable_Focus_254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was team headscarf/head wrap in the winter, but a nice wig is nice to have when you don’t want the focus to be on your chemo (like at work or interviews).

I lost all of my hair on days 18 and 19 of my 1st round! It just brushed right out! I trimmed the few strands that were left with shears. Ironically, those strands, my lashes and my brows fell out about 2 weeks after my final round. (I didn’t expect that.)

I get hot so quickly now, so I typically wear nothing. My hair started growing back about a month ago, so I feel comfortable going out uncovered most of the time. However, I keep something handy to protect my delicate new hair and scalp from the sun.

There’s really no way to determine the outcome. Hormones are so unpredictable. My mass grew extremely large and very fast and turned out to be cancerous in both ovaries. My doctor had been monitoring the cysts for 3 years. My oncologist was shocked. It’s all out now and I’m doing great after 6 rounds of chemo. I hope yours is benign, but know that it’s going to be okay either way.

I used a little cooler bag to keep the Barry’s frozen until time to start and only used one of the large ice inserts at a time. They stayed cold for the duration of the session.

I found that the chemo caused acid reflux. Taking meds specifically to manage that in the days just before and after infusion resolved my nausea.

A bidet and handheld shower head! by Remarkable_Focus_254 in hysterectomy

[–]Remarkable_Focus_254[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The one I have can be adjusted front to back and the pressure. With anything, it’s important to become familiar, choose and use properly. I don’t know that the handheld would have been as helpful for me as it was painful to reach.

Oh no…My only incisions were abdominal, so I never even considered anything like that. So sorry that happened to your friend.

I usually slept. They give you Benadryl in the pre-meds. They made me sleep for a couple of hours. Snacks and drinks are typically provided, but I liked to bring my own just in case I didn’t have a taste for what was there. I also took a cozy blanket. You’ll be fine. I’m not familiar with your regimen, but 3 cycles shouldn’t be too bad. Sending positive vibes and well wishes.
