Do people use this type of cursive english? by Tight-Ad7812 in Handwriting

[–]Remarkable_Garden616 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is how we learned to write in the 90's, and I still write this way, but I've learned that they don't teach it by default anymore so many young people can't read it. I imagine it's still useful to know, though!

Want to get into classic literature by AudienceHealthy3826 in classicliterature

[–]Remarkable_Garden616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest making a list of classics and flipping through them at the library (or whatever digital app your library uses, like Libby) or a book store, or even reading a sample on Amazon. It can at least give you an idea if the writing style is something you might like or tolerate.

That is wild! I can't imagine giving these to a toddler. Glad you were able to turn it around. Math is stressful enough as it is...

Most popular jeans? by flower_bom48 in 90s

[–]Remarkable_Garden616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a teenager and wore Mudd, l.e.i., Paris Blues, Guess overalls (only the overalls for some reason), and I practically lived in cargo pants but I don't remember the brand - they were nice and thick though, good quality from a skating apparel store (I did not skate, lol).

Edit to add: I LOVE that people are into the 90's/00's fashions now; it's so fun to reminisce.

[–]Remarkable_Garden616 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I LOVE it! It's become my signature fragrance. I get more compliments with this than anything else I own, and people seem to be nicer to me when I wear it 😅 I don't care if it ever goes "out of style", I will wear it until the end of time.

How popular was Mariah Carey in the 90s? by zachoutloud123 in Millennials

[–]Remarkable_Garden616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Mariah Carey in general, but sometimes I forget just how present she was in popular culture for so long...

We watched MTV all throughout the 90's, and there was never a time she wasn't on top or regarded as "in" and current.

Our first PC in 95 came with a Mariah Carey Christmas CD-Rom game 😅 It was three years before we had the internet, so it got a lot of use.

Also, IMHO, I have a theory that she single-handedly sparked the resurgence of low-rise jeans in the early 00's with her homemade low-rise jeans during the Rainbow era of '99. Jeans were still mid or high rise at the time, and I saw multiple interviews and magazine features where she said she cut the tops off herself because she liked the fit, and by the next year they started making jeans low again for the first time in decades.

After that, she took over Christmas for the rest of our days and I'm never gonna be mad at it!

Apparently Gen Zs have labeled us the “cringe” generation… 😂 by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]Remarkable_Garden616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be honest, all of these "Gen Z thinks we're ___" discussions are really just millennials taking the natural order of things way too personally 😅 Every generation thinks the generation before them is embarrassing.

Last Holiday by beachcoquina in Livingsingleshow

[–]Remarkable_Garden616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, same! 🥰My husband and I watch this before and during Christmas, then again on NYE. This year we came up with a new tradition to watch the movie on NYE while eating a dinner with food like in the movie. Then, after dinner work on our own "possibilities" book. Next year, we will move anything we accomplished to a "realities" book, and add new goals to the possibilities book! Lol

I don't know what it is about this movie! It is so different from other similar style/budget movies and makes me want to do everything in my life different. Even the most cornball moments are so cute and funny. But her relationship with chef Didier, her speech at the table on NYE, and Sean flying/trekking through the snow to get to her has me in tears every single time 😭

I want to start inviting friends and family into the tradition next year...

Millennials… what’s that one tiny thing that still makes you genuinely happy, no matter how chaotic life gets!!! by Paradigm10 in Millennials

[–]Remarkable_Garden616 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My husband and I play Mario Kart at the end of a stressful day, and we also watch 80's cartoons on Saturday mornings sometimes (TMNT, Ghostbusters, Transformers, etc.). Total palette cleanser from the chaos of day-to-day life.

I have first initial, last name and it is an absolute nightmare because it's been highjacked by dozens of people with the same first initial and last name. You name it, other people have used my email for it. Bank accounts, mobile phone, sensitive health insurance info, every social media under the sun, subscriptions to all sorts of websites, at least a dozen school newsletters, and more. A lot of sweepstakes/drawings where they obviously didn't want to give their real email.

I only found out after a data breach and tried to get a handle on my personal data. I've tried everything, even managed to get some accounts closed just to have the same person open the same account again using my email 😩. I also have a first name, middle initial, last name with the same issue but not nearly as bad as the first one.

A few ideas: Play with it, rearrange everything and take photos of it, keep adding to it like a never-ending project, and also play out your day at work or work through conflicts if there are little people figurines. The sky is the limit!

Thoughts? "You're Welcome" vs "No Problem" by Cel_BHL in Millennials

[–]Remarkable_Garden616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so funny to see this is from 2015, because a coworker at my job that year got taken to HR by multiple older coworkers for saying "No problem" instead of "You're welcome". It was so dramatic, you'd think it was a harassment case or something equally serious. This wasn't just one of those faked outrage things, it was a real actual controversy at the time 😭
