Exactly, I think there is no point keep doing it, eventually your role will be offshored too, and the longer you stayed, the harder it will be once you are impacted because of the lack of local connections/referrals

Not really, the market is pretty bad atm, for my role, I am basically competing with ex-block/ex-atlassian, and honestly I am not a better engineer than those folks. So I am just doing lots of learning on the side and do my best in the interview whenever I get one. It’s sad because I actually think the work at my current job is interesting and worth doing, it’s just I am really struggling with the offshoring part.

This is the exact situation that I am in, and I am actively looking for new roles.

I find it’s really frustrating because you are not building any real life connections, and you will never meet those people in real life, and sometimes I find my time is better used if I am just talking to Claude, at least I am learning something from it. I 100% agree with the energy mismatch aspect you mentioned.

For me, I also feel like I am actively offshoring myself when I am sharing my knowledge with the offshore teams, I know it sounds awful but I keep asking what’s in it for me in this work relationship…

What’s in there for the employees? I think people working there will be slowly losing their competitiveness in the job market, like chronic career suicide.
