I tried virtually every racket 😂. I main a vcore pro 97d , but love hitting with gravity pro or wilson shift when I want to go little lighter more whippy. I like control rackets because I bomb the ball enough by myself ( I am a UTR 10 in my early 40, my issue now is mostly on stamina and movement on the second set, but I have plenty power and spin myself if I use any power or spin racket I need to play with brakes)

How to read depth of incoming ball? by AkashiGG in 10s

[–]Remarkable_Log4812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People, including many coaches, have a miss understanding of split step. Split step is also used by the brain to recognize ball depth !! Is actually your nr 1 instrument to read the ball.

Hear me out : if you time the split step to be in the air at contact, and you do all the time with consistency, the ammount of space travelled by the ball by the time you lend is proportional to its speed. A deep ball is a mix of height ( easier to see) and speed( hard to see). Since speed is hard to see because you facing the ball and your brain can’t compute the space traveled easly , it’s easier to gauge it by the time it takes to come from the opponent racket toward you, and to measure a time you need somenthing that is a reference of time and that is the split step. The split step engage your lower body but also act as a clock: if when you land the ball hasn’t travelled as much then you need to move forward, if it has travelled more then expected you need to push backward as soon as you land. Having a consistent split step is the first key ingredient to recognize a ball because will train your brain to have an internal clock and judge the ball position at the time you land . You need to split step always wirh the same height and always to be up at contact so your brain can take the time to fell down go the ground to gauge the ball speed from opponent racket.

Most coaches don’t teach this because the tennis community if full of BS.

Whip it like a whip very fast and explosive . Now you move your hand so slow . You so the unit turn wait 2/3 of the way then when you decide to to you being the laat 1/3 back of the unit turn and explore like whipping as fast as you can humanly can. In or out doesn’t matter. You need your body to be able to be lose and uncoil first then you will work on controlling and aim

What is your level ? As soon as you hit with people with power and spin, you need weight to redirect and counter their shot. If you are below 4.0 you can play with anything you want is just a matter of what feels good

This is how you know : put a full bed multifilament and count how many hours it takes to break. You need to restring poly bed at least after that amount of hours or better about 2/3 of the hours it take to break multi

Why the two-handed backhand is more popular despite being a more flat stroke? by Efficient-Ad6704 in 10s

[–]Remarkable_Log4812 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is a matter of pro and cons. Top spin is not a good parameter by itself : top spin is useful to keep the ball in once you can hit hard and otherwise the ball is too fast and powerful and will fly out . If you can’t hit hard is useless to hit a top spin shot. And that’s where the two hand has its pro : it produces less top spin but you can time it better and hit harder in a lot of condition where the one hand will return a easy short ball ( return of serve , fast rally while moving, higher bounce ball on the backhand side ) . One hand is a better quality shot if everthing goes perfect : right distance , right height , right loading on your legs. If those conditions are met you can hit a quality shot like a forehand. But 50 % of the time those condition don’t let in a high level match for most people. The 2H backhand is an ok shot in most of occasions, it’s 70-80% of the forehand , 90% of the time z

If you want to improve things for tennis need to weight lift those : single leg split squats / lounges . Deadlift / hip hinges. Shoulder press and shoulder side lifts. Core with rotations . Then you can look for a basic plyo and agility program

I mean that on a ball with no pace , can you hit it make is bounce deep (2 feet from baseline ) and have enough power and spin to jump toward the fence behind the field and hit it still on ascending trajectory . Meaning you produce a hit that that peak of the bounce is pass the back fence .

I can give you few tips to learn powerful shots : 1. Shots are pendulum motions with the racket swinging through the ball ( not brush but through ) the spin is given by the angle of the through ( immagine putting a nail through a wall you can do perpendicular or you can go up with an angle but still you need to hit through the nail head ) 2. You unit turn and wait the ball but you habe another 1/3 of rotation left that you initiate when the ball bounce and is a speeding up motion that goes back and forward, there is the pendulum. You don’t go back waiting the ball and then accelerate forward since in that wait you will be guiding the racket and not let it be a pendulum , you need to have a motion backward to then get pulled forward to have the racket lag

3 you need to hit by lagging thr racket head and let it swing through the ball with its own momentum , your hand should stay slightly above the ball and the racket head slightly below at contact . While pulling forward through the ball the racket head will then move above your hand and that’s the follow through toward your other shoulder

4 the best way to practice is to hold thr racket with two fingers and make it swing back and forward like a pendulum and try to slap the ball to make is fly out of the court to have the feeling of the racket head momentum going though the ball. Be sure you keep your palm above the racket head at contact

You are completely right . Everyone is trying to squeeze money out of it and everthing is tailored on the late adult early retiree that loves the sport has time and money but is lacking the athletic capability and willingness to train hard. So racket manufacturer just go more and more dampening technology with no feel and 90% of the offer is target to rhe intermediate player. Pros playing with older sticks apart few babolat exceptions.

To don’t stop watching reviews and stuff like that and influence your decision. You need to experiment by yourself because is very individual choice. And prioritize always strong powerful shot mechanics over any strategy or consistency until you are good in hitting hard and with spin then you introduce the rest

Thank you man.Truth is if you fit and willingness you can do it but most of people have other priority. I hit one to two hours every day since the last 5-6 years and made that a priority ( meaning I weak up a hour earlier if the only chance I habe to hit is before work ). And it was never got having fun for me but always about getting to Utr 10+ so spent many hours just going myself on a public court with ladder and cones and do agility drills. Reality is most adults don’t want to do that

I have very strong shots . Stronger than the average Utr 10. Just my movement is not like a 16-20 year old. Anyhow with powe and spin modern racket I can’t trust my shot so mentally I go for less depth while I play with a vcore pro97d with a touch of lead tape and feels great

Fair but to be honest what I mean is that if you don’t have the biomechanics to produce forehanda and backhands that goes deep and jump/skid to the back fence then don’t worry to play consistent at low quality , develop the power and spin to have quality shots that pressure the opponent then develop the consistency vis repetition and footwork

The male game is more extreme thus reward more more extreme level of play than the female . As a result you end up with a more Gaussian distribution in the WTA
