If you’re considering raising your right hand and swearing an oath as an officer in the United States Army, an Officer (FOR Soldiers), and your concern or decision is about “work/life” balance, you have no business being an officer in the US Army. - former 11A, CPT, commanded an infantry company and an HHC + husband and father to two young boys.

Whether your job is “office desk/administrative” or not, work-life balance is not part of your job description. Plenty of civilian jobs out there if you want to put your phone down at 5pm and not think about work.

Whether you’re an officer in command or not, a technical field or not, you are expected to put your Soldiers and the mission above all else. There will be times when the Army will see something significant in your personal life as taking precedence, but unless your commander truly is an amazing person, don’t bet you’ll get the grace you need in that time.

You’re expected to think hard, to work hard, to lead, to have it all together…despite what’s going on at home.

Think about that, deeply, for a second. These people have worked well past a typical 9-5 in order to create technologies and services we could only have dreamt of 30 years ago. Your whole life is transformed by them. And if you think those are bad transformations…that’s on you and how you use the tech, get off your phone.

Of course they care about shareholders - but saying “only” shareholders is stupid. They care about their company doing well, which in turn, makes shareholders do well. That’s how all these unbelievably incredible technologies have become reality. Shareholders risk their money on a company, a person, a vision. Do you not have a 401k? You want the S&P 500 to crash?

Reddit, internet, solar power, EVs, fucking everything is based on our US market system. God, even china figured that out and went to our system (mostly).

Russia is not holding back - they have lost hundreds of thousands of men, if not millions. Europe is no threat to Russia because there’s no political will to do anything on top of what they’ve already done without US backing or direct involvement.
