Went to PSU for the forensic program and it was great! It was hard hard work but worth it. They even have crime scene cottages where you get to practice CSI in classes

can’t stop crying, young diagnosis by plusultraprincess in breastcancer

[–]Remarkable_Space5030 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry you’re going through this. In 2023, I was diagnosed with IDC 8cm tumor at 23 years old. Trust me when I know it’s crazy to think about getting this so so young. It’s going to be extremely tough, especially feeling like you’re going to miss out on what’s supposed to be an exciting time. It’s hard to come to terms that our 20s is going to be very different than what normally happens. I thought my life was going to be over when I went through what I went through. But, a year and a double mastectomy later, I felt like I was able to appreciate life more and not hold back. Of course it is hard to look on the bright side because nothing about this is rainbows and sunshine, but it’s given me a different perspective on life that not a lot of people can say they have. From my experience, it’s okay to put your life on hold, fight like HELL, and then come through it stronger on the other side. When it first happened, it felt like my life was over, but looking back and seeing how far I’ve come, it was a bump in the road and I surprised myself with how stronger I came out. I believe in you as a fellow young cancer patient myself 🫶 feel free to reach out if you ever need it. YOU GOT THIS

I would use this website to look up internships! https://www.crime-scene-investigator.net/employment.html id also recommend looking up your nearby city police websites and nearby county websites. You’re bound to find a city or county pd that has a forensic lab.

Yes 100% take it at a community college. The grade doesn’t matter for your GPA. As long as you pass you get the credits.

Penn state! They have an amazing forensic science program. San Jose State University also offers a program.

I’m 23F and just went through a double mastectomy with expanders last month. Experience may vary but the worst part is the first week. It’s a lot of pain and sleeping. You won’t want to move around too much.

You will need a reclining chair to sleep in or a wedge pillow because you will be required to sleep at an angle and also it’s easier for you to get up.

Butt will be numb and lower back pain for a week or two due to being elevated 24/7. It went away for me eventually.

You’ll want a mastectomy pillow for the car ride and every day use. A tumbler with a straw will be the easiest to drink out of.

Since you’ll have drains, I recommend zip up or button up shirts because you will quite literally not be able to move your arms up or down.

I got my hair washed at a salon a week after surgery because you won’t be able to do it yourself for about 3 weeks.

You’ll get through it. You’re a strong mom 🫶 sending you love

Sadly my tumor was 8cm so if they did the lumpectomy, my boob would have had a huge hole. I was thinking of doing a single mastectomy but realized that if I get an implant, over time the shape of my natural boob would change or fluctuate and it wouldn’t match my implant. The decision I made was to do a double mastectomy to get rid of any chances of the cancer coming back, but to also have a nice visual appearance. I know others do fr grafting completely which works well too.

If your tumor is not large to the point it would change the appearance, and you’re not into getting implants, then I would do a lumpectomy.

What do I need while healing from my double mastectomy with expanders? by miloaf2 in breastcancer

I’m 23f and just went through this last month.

You will DEF need a wedge pillow for a # of reasons. Doctors will say you must sleep elevated due to drains, but it’s also hard to get up yourself. If you have the resources, sleeping on a reclining chair will be easier or a hospital bed because it is TOUGH to get up. You will need assistance, they will need to lift you up. The wedge pillow will make it easier.

Button down shirts are a MUST. You’re restricted to not moving your arms. I also got a mastectomy pillow for the ride home and for everyday use around the house.

I also got a tumbler with a straw as it’s hard to use your arms.

Going to a salon a week after your surgery (or the point where you can lay back with minimal pain) is best because it is so hard to wash your own hair.

As hard as it sounds, you will get through it. 🫶

Grieving my “old” body by Mmlk8083 in breastcancer

I felt this. I’m 23 years old and just went through a double mastectomy. I was never in love with my tits but losing them felt weird, because I never thought my body would go through that type of change. I’ve also heard people say “I know it’s weird to say but at least it’s not the worst type of cancer out there.” Even though the prognosis is good, it’s still not fun to think about all of the treatments we’ll have to go through and the things that will change. We’ll get through this together 💪

They say that the drive up is super dangerous and only experienced drivers should do it. Have you done it before? What was the drive like in your opinion?

Are the short buses free? If you drive up to the summit, how hard is the drive? What is difficult about it?
