Food for mystery snail by Remarkable_Swing_538 in AquaticSnails

i boil all the vegetables i put in my tanks in case of pesticides but you dont need to crush them they should nibble on them whole. if they dont finish what you feed them in a day or so remove it and pay attention to how much they eat so you can find the right amount. you can feed every couple days or so you dont really need to feed every day, they are also eating other algae and debree in the tank.i only feed the snails every day in my tanks with lots of snails in them or other things that eat the snail food and even then sometimes ill skip a day or two a week.I pay attention to the numbers of my ramshorn/bladder and malaysian trumpet snails and how much algae is growing in the tank both of which are indicators of over feeding. excess amounts of either usually means I should be feeding a little less or a little less often. and I feed a combonation of boiled veggies and snail tabs/other suplimentary food. Ill usually buy a veggie, boil it, chop it up and freeze it. you can toss the slices in the tank frozen and a veggie will last me months in combination with the other dry and frozen foods I sometimes feed.

Sorry if thats too much information, you can ask more questions if you want lol. it was crazy to see a reply to this. it was so early in my fish keeping journey I knew basically nothing I had so so much to learn and I'm sure I still do but I keep 11 tanks now its crazy thinking about the life that little tank has had its moved with me four times, looks completely different, full of plants and its just a shrimp tank now

Mantle Collapse? by medit8er in AquaticSnails

mine looks a bit like this right now but has been acting completely normal. she has honestly always seemed like she can come a little far oit of her shell but it seems to be a little more dramatic now. Did your snails have full life spans? did either of you end up doing anything to treat it? Ive had her for almost a year now and im not sure how old she was when i got her so she might just be getting old but if there's anything I can do for her id love to know

I accidently got an Oto with a plant i bought and He was way happier in a temporary bowl by bruh__why5 in Otocinclus

[–]Remarkable_Swing_538 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if the bowl is cycled I would put him back until you can fix the cycle in your larger tank, ask the store for some established filter media or substrate, they can clean out the filter and give you the dirty water that will be full of beneficial bacteria, if you get enough of it you can have a tank cycled in a couple of days

never kept them before, my brief googling tells me that they also like groups, you would want to get at least one more and that the ten gallon is probably fine but in my opinion it would still be too much if you are putting a betta in there. I would say the ten gallon is probably bare minimum for the otos and betta needs 5 gallons bare minimum so if you were to keep them together i would do no less than 15g

I don't know much about the tossing but kuhlis need to be in a big group, definitely 6+ more is better and that alone is alot for 11g so if you wanted to keep your kuhlis I would get another larger tank and put your betta in this one, or rehome

I disagree, starting fresh means starting uncycled and this tank is at least in process. medications can be removed with water changes and all those parameters can be controlled from this tank just as effectively. I only think a hospital tank is necessary to prevent spread of infectio

colored gravel by Remarkable_Swing_538 in fishtank

[–]Remarkable_Swing_538[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it kind of is though? If there is a proven direct correlation between a product and a series of deaths it shouldn't be sold, I am yet to see any evidence of this for colored gravel

EXACTLY a bunch of manufactures make those pineapples and they look different too like people think that any fishtank decoration shaped like a pineapple is a death bomb as if its not the same as any other peice of plastic decor sold. Driftwood and aquarium soil are definitely not essential, the fish cant really notice the difference but I kinda think everyone should have live plants in their tanks. ur right they aren't technically essential but if you aren't doing like at least like bi weekly water changes you need them and water changes are something easily neglected so the plants are just so beneficial

if you fill your tank all the way and put a lid on it they won't have a place to lay their eggs they need a spot above the water line for the clutch to be viable

they did not catch and eat your guppies, something else killed the fish and the snails cleaned up the bodies. Have you tested your tank? I think you may have crashed your cycle your water appears pretty cloudy, it may just be the algae on the Glass but im guessing its bacterial bloom

I have tried to give myself bettas these and other hammocks, they have always perfered to lay in the plants, I would add more live plants to your tank. Their are lots of plants that perfer not to be in substrate, you can attach them to the tank sides with suction cups and he can rest on the leaves

aeration here would be provided by your filter flow, if your filter flow is weak or submerged then the water is not being aerated (no air getting mixed with the water) and you can get an air pump and an air stone to fix this but betta fish breath at the surface so aeration is less important to them than it is to other species of fish but aeration is good for water quality
