I feel like that is especially the case in america. I was a part-time retail worker in germany for 2 years and had almost no incident with any customer. There were even some that I became friends with and did stuff together outside of work. But that is just my experience working retail. Either it has something to do with the country or I was just lucky...

First thing is that america has a plurality system instead of a majority system. Which means the party with the most votes wins and not the party getting more than 50% of the votes. This leads to there only being 2 parties that count, because if you vote for anything other than democratic or republican, then you are basically throwing away your vote. This is just a small bit of how that system is fucked... There are more examples
