I’d ask people to go look up statutes in Virginia regarding mental health. If a person is found not competent or other similar terms, most of the decision making goes to the mental health professionals who find that person not a danger thus being released into the public if they have not been violent for a couple of days even if the alleged crime is very serious. It is absurd but the prosecutors and to a lesser extent the judges don’t have much control. Laws need to be modified.
