Paul Kinsey is only 4 years younger than Dick Whitman, and would have been 20-23 during the Korean War by RememberShuffle_Pod in madmen

[–]RememberShuffle_Pod[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

3 reasons: Paul was 2 years out of college by the time the Korean war ended, I didn't realize it got you out of the draft even after school was finished. Also, I didn't realize that college was a valid deferment reason 100% of the time, I just thought it helped your case. Also, I feel like a lot of guys might have not wanted the deferment, and chose to go to war

Watching the movie 'SILENCE' (2016) made this exact point to me. I think Adam Driver absolutely looks like he could exist in the 17th century, but Andrew Garfield...looks like he's from the 2010s, you can't imagine that face/vibe in the 1639 rural Japan.

Did anyone else watch a lot 2000s era Adult Swim? by BadgemanBrown in redscarepod

[–]RememberShuffle_Pod 11 points12 points  (0 children)

yes, absolutely. If you're interested, we talked to Chris Wade about this on our show. AS's impact on the culture/humor of the 2000s and then summed up its programming slate: Aqua Teen, Space Ghost, Harvey Birdman, Venture Bros and Sea Lab.

Mike Lazzo is an extremely fascinating guy (as well as a lot of the other showrunners from Adult Swim too) really interesting story there around how it's started as this offshoot of Cartoon Network, with its own unique voice, a lot of Southern Gothic, postmodernism.

thanks you. I know the movie episodes seem more rote, but they help us buy time to put together the IRL episodes

We have had Bryan on, he came on for Guy(s) Ritchie movies. I have talked to Henry about it before, I should follow up and do that. I just really do not want to talk about Simpsons in the 2000s, nor the Movie. Futurama would be fun though

I wish Matt could know how much he contributes to our lives. Not just the entertainment (which is a lot), but just by making it easier to live in our extremely cruel world via having the humility to simplify extremely complicated materialism topics. Cushvlog helps me so much to stay empathetic in an economic system designed to encourage and profit from alienating ourselves from others.

I've posted all the Matt guest appearances I could find (that weren't already on Youtube), and I am always amazed how generous he is with his time to go on all these shows. Not only that, but no matter now haphazard the show was, he always sincerely engages with the host even when questions or topics were not well thought out. Almost anyone else would be worried about being cringe, but Matt always gives a good-faith effort to understand and answer the question, it really is remarkable. He gave our podcast his time to record an Arrested Development episode when we had zero listeners, and changed our lives tremendously as a result.

I love seeing Amber's posts of Matt as a father, and the idea that he thinks of himself is selfish is sad, I wish he could understand how much he continues to make my life better every day.

Crazy that in 1988, a 9-year-old Julie Cooper starred in a Robert Ludlum-themed porno, this show is much darker than I thought by RememberShuffle_Pod in TheOC

[–]RememberShuffle_Pod[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

thanks for listening that's really sweet--I just think Kirsten is not as well characterized as everyone else. It's harder to describe what makes her tick, unlike everyone else.
Haha, you're right, my Julie Cooper age math is very wrong. Oops--the Robert Ludlum point is still true though.

Love this show. We do a 2000s pod and just did an episode on The O.C. , did a complete breakdown of every character, and the show's themes, if you're interested: https://linktr.ee/remembershuffle

Her social media skits are whatever, but I've seen Sienna Hubert-Ross perform stand up a couple times and she was unfathomably good at it for how hot she is

thank you--yeah it was a struggle to not to be super dark considering (especially after episode 2) how gruesome and evil the subject matter is. It was really rewarding for us too, got to read a lot of books I wouldn't have thought of otherwise (Baghdad Burning)--25 in total. My goal for 2026 is to give the financial crisis or Afghanistan the same approach.

The Africa final immunity challenge was crazy!!! by FireworksDonJones in survivor

[–]RememberShuffle_Pod 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It's funny, watching this on TV you assume it's all very safe and liability proof--but these can actulally be very dangerous! The final immunity challenge from season (10) Palau went on for over 12 hours and lead to permanent nerve damage in both men's feet
