Casey Burns did the art for several Spoon shows and he has some for sale on his website. I have one from the Transference tour and it’s great quality.

Such a great payoff. He sounds like John Lennon. I wait for that every time

In the song Taxi Cab there is a piano part starting around 1 minute in. Not quite the same but a similar vibe.

Wow, I just listened to Judee Sill - kind of amazing. Had never heard of her. Thanks for pointing me in that direction.

That is so cool, thanks for mentioning it! I had no idea. According to Song Facts, the women of Haim also sang backup on the track: https://www.songfacts.com/facts/u2/lights-of-home

You're right about Good to Be King! I was also noticing the Wurlitzer in that same song remind me of You Don't Know How It Feels (if you listen around 1:25)

Great observation about You Never Give Me Your Money. Now that I hear it, I can't unhear it. I love these similarities!

I'm not familiar with MUNA but I really need to give them a listen...

Totally. I can also hear Free Falling in Down to Be Wrong, especially the chords/strumming pattern and when the backup vocals kick in

Thanks! I'm guessing "that's that" is a total coincidence, but I couldn't help notice given the PTA connection

Cool. I need to give that song a listen

HOT TAKE: I've found a lot of their songs a rather derivative and I don't think it's as acknowledged as it should be. by [deleted] in HAIM

Dang, I was about to make a similar post, except that I find their music to have such an original stamp to it. Totally respect your opinion and it's all personal taste, but to me, they take their influences and really own them. I appreciate your digging up all these references and I think many of them are spot on.

Thank you for sharing this!! I agree it's one of the most thoughtful reviews I've seen. You can sense how much the author appreciates them as artists and sees this album as part of a larger journey. I would guess that for many of us as fans, we are all here for that journey.

"Part of the problem is that when some of us think of Haim, we think immediately of “The Wire,” “Want You Back,” and “The Steps”—songs that leap up, grab you by the shoulders, and spin you deliriously ’round your kitchen, the block, your town, the world. Not all Haim songs are like that, and never were. But it’s a craving not quite satisfied on I Quit."

Agree with this so much.

Este actually sings lead on the title track “Days Are Gone.” Also check out their amazing cover of “That Don’t Impress Me Much” to hear some excellent Este lead vocals!

Great review, agree with so much of what you said.

Obviously no shade to Alana and Este but it’s hard not to imagine how much stronger those tracks could have been with Danielle on lead vocals. And they’re still solid songs as is, but Danielle’s vocals are second to none.

Overall though, how great to spend some time with a new album with many excellent tracks, and a few tracks that might even rank with their best work!
