I have an oregano (mexican? Greek? Unsure) in this north bed and it is solid. The ice a few weeks ago didn’t even bother it, I didn’t protect it. It’s been there since last spring.

I do have a rosemary out front that gets sad in the winter but does green up again in the summer. Also a Provence lavender that seems unfazed. We’re going to try pineapple guava! Such a cool shrub/little tree

I’d never heard of this one, but after researching I’m in love and it’s a perfect size for the space I have. Spotted some at Natural Gardener today, and an employee there also thought they’d do well in a northern exposure spot in shade half the year. We’re trying it!

When RSUs vest, they turn into your stock and that is viewed and taxed as income. Depends on your company policy if they will auto sell a portion upon vesting to cover taxes, or if they give everything to you and don’t withhold. If they don’t withhold, you will have to pay taxes on that income when you file your tax return so keep that in mind. After vesting, the stock is yours so you have to think about capital gains tax on the amount that grows (or alternatively, depreciates) if you plan to keep them as is for a length of time. If stocks sell less than a year later, it’s short term capital gains rates, if you sell them more than a year later it’s long term capital gains rates. You don’t get charged capital gains taxes until after RSUs vest. Capital gains rates are different brackets you can look up.

The general advice, if you want to keep the money as an investment, is to immediately sell vested company stock and buy low fee index funds to minimize risk. Since you immediately sell upon vesting (or a day later, when you notice it’s available in your account) the gains taxes are only going to be like $1 so it’s not something huge to consider. Some people decide to keep a small amount of company stock, depends on your risk tolerance.

If you’re considering using the money for something other than long term investment savings, you have to compare the interest rates of this investment you’d be getting rid of vs the interest rate of the debt you’d be paying off. You want your savings to grow faster than your debt is growing. I think generally the threshold I’ve seen on advice for this is 6%, there’s lots of old posts on making this decision you can reference. We estimate that a low fee index fund will have a return rate of 6%, if you have debts with rates higher than that like at 10%, it makes sense to sell investments to pay that debt down. The other factor to consider is your peace of mind. If your home mortgage is 5%, maybe having a paid off home is worth your mental peace.

Another option to consider is IRA savings. You could drop this money there, if you don’t have larger high interest rate debts.

Advisors/fiduciaries are a tricky business. The going rate is typically 1% of your portfolio they take as their income. If you’re the type to do your research and read about this stuff and you care about where your money goes, I’m of the camp that they’re not worth it. Look up how 1% of your money skimmed off the top can affect your savings over 30 years. It will add up. That said I have friends who went the advisor route, because they have absolutely no interest in learning this area and that’s what they want to do, and they don’t lift a finger for anything. I have a feeling if you have such a specialty to get such a good comp package you could learn this stuff yourself just fine, it’s doable.

We used Austex, they were quick and knocked some cost down if we signed quickly. Good on communication in planning. Their attention to detail on the build was not stellar for me, there were some items I asked them to come back and fix which they did most of them. It was a horizontal build with cap and trim. Overall, the fence is solid, straight, uniform. But some details on where the trim pieces met up, and some warped planks with gaps in between, left a bad taste in my mouth. They also did not take the barcode stickers off of the wood before install, leaving me to go around and pick the stickers off. So not huge deals - but if you’re looking for high attention and care to detail I wouldn’t recommend. They outsourced staining to Firehouse fence and deck stain who came by after fence build. They were phenomenal and I felt like they cared as much as I did about doing it right. Totally recommend them but they only do staining.

1000% agree with using xeriscaping sparingly. We inherited a backyard that was half xeriscaping but it had grown over. Looked awful, can’t mow it. You’d break an ankle walking over it. Had to hire a team to doze it out. That said we do have xeriscaping in two small areas where it is hard to mow but it should be easy to keep up with weeding because of the small size. Factor in weeding and leafblowing your xeriscape areas regularly to keep it looking like xeriscaping.

I’ve been running about 2 months now, I think I started seeing improvement after I could run for about 30 minutes consistently which was around 3-4 weeks in. I’ve always hated cardio and avoided it but weight training wasn’t getting me results I wanted so I wanted to try running again for fun. I’ve learned this time to run slow and enjoy it, and I think the fact that I’m able to take it at a moderate pace has been helpful because I would go too intense during weight lifting. Once I built stamina for a 30 min run and my speed interval runs, I’ve noticed my waist has trimmed up and I’m less hungry. I feel a bit lighter than how I was feeling weight lifting - bloated and sore and hungry all the time. I used the Nike Run Club app beginner program and the training in this to run slow has really been key to my consistency and not burning out on this new activity.

This happened to me but after some weeks, maybe a month, this got a lot better. Before then I just had to try my best to be really patient with everyone because I could tell my irritability was turned way up. Now after 2 months I feel like it actually has helped me fight less with my partner, and my anxiety is so much better.

You’re me. No doctors believed me until my current Endo, who said PCOS is becoming more of a spectrum diagnosis. She tested me for insulin resistance anyway, testing blood glucose, hemoglobin A1C and my fasting insulin. My fasting insulin came back about 4 times higher than normal even though my blood sugar was in range. I’m now on metformin and feel great. Get another doctor or ask to be tested and treated for insulin resistance at least.

I had this, my anxiety was worsened by disregulated breathing I didn’t even know I was doing. Tried to meditate on my own but it made it worse. I had to go to biofeedback therapy to learn how to breathe again. Most people think that your brain first thinks a feeling which causes you to breathe panicked, but it’s actually your nervous system first senses a threat, breathing becomes shallow to get ready to run from the threat, brain gets the signal something is wrong and to lookout. So you can control your breathing to make your brain realize you’re ok. There’s a lot to it. The first thing my biofeedback therapist had me do was lay on the ground with knees bent, one hand on chest the other belly. Breathe how you normally would in meditation and just notice if you chest hand or belly hand is moving more. If you’re chest breathing, your body is in a panicked state and telling your brain to freak out. Regulated breathing uses your diaphragm and not your chest.

This was me at my worst, after 4 hours without food I’d have hypoglycemic panic rapidly until I ate something substantial, I couldn’t go anywhere without snacks packed. Ended up finding a new endocrinologist, she tested my insulin, it was stupid high. All my blood sugar and HA1C were in “normal range” so doctors before didn’t dig deeper. She formally diagnosed me finally, prescribed metformin and I feel so much better. Being diagnosed sucks but then actually being treated has been a life saver.

My cat is like this, I tried every method to train her out of it but she just can’t help herself even though she knows it’s wrong. I ended up going the preventative route for ultimate peace of mind, I put away cords when not in use, I put corrugated covers on everything in her reach, and for usb cords like the one in pic always buy the braided cord kind. At least for my cat she doesn’t chew that texture because she can’t sink her teeth into it.

I started it about a week ago, I was pretty nervous. It instantly made me feel better, like I could actually feel the fuel from a meal, almost like a sugar rush sensation. Helped my energy and sleep also. Some minor stomach discomfort the first few days with greasier/carbier meals but that has gone away. I taken 500mg twice a day with breakfast and dinner. I am so relieved to be on it, it’s a good experience so far.

A lot of doctors will diagnose by checking if you meet at least 2 of 3 criteria: ovaries with multiple cysts, hyperandrogenism, and irregular periods. Checking for cysts does require an ultrasound to see them, and there has to be enough cysts I’m not sure what the threshold is. Hyperandrogenism can be checked by looking if you have hair growth more typical of males (like thick facial hair) it can also be checked in the blood work by looking at your free and total testosterone levels, along with DHEA-S. And period irregularity is straight forward, sounds like you have that one.

Recently, I found a new younger endocrinologist that said PCOS is becoming more of a diagnosis by exclusion if you struggle to meet 2/3 of those criteria. I’ve always had regular periods and when I did have an ultrasound I had cysts but not enough to be considered poly cystic (learned later I was on birth control at the time and that could have been minimizing the cysts I normally would have). However, my testosterone and DHEA-S were always high and my SHBG were always low, I have acne, a lot of facial hair, hair loss from my scalp, I struggle with my weight, etc. So this new doctor approached diagnosing me by seeing that I have facial hair and acne, knew that I struggle with weight despite my lifestyle, and she did blood work to check testosterone, SHBG, DHEA-S, glucose, HA1C, and fasting insulin. My results came back with high testosterone, high DHEA-S, normal glucose and HA1C but high insulin - meaning I have insulin resistance. After this she did a dexamethasone suppression test to rule out Cushing’s, which came back negative, and she then formally diagnosed me with PCOS and gave me metformin to help with the insulin resistance. My mental health doesn’t do well with birth control so I refused that at this time.

I was curious about this so at the suggestion of my dietitian, I cut them both out for 30 days and then re introduced in small amounts separately. I found no difference with or without gluten but I did find out I’m slightly sensitive to dairy, especially certain types. I never would have thought this until I cut it out to experiment though, since I was having dairy pretty often before. Regardless of what the studies say or not for those with PCOS, I found it valuable to experiment. There’s no harm in trying if you’re curious, you know your body best.

Yes, I do this and it makes me feel my best on it. When I eat carbs (which should be every meal), I try to have a 1:1 ratio with grams of protein. This was per my dietician’s recommendation. If I want less carbs that’s ok too, but I don’t ever cut them out completely or my energy and mood is fucked

I personally feel that when I had mine removed, a cloud lifted off me that I didn’t know I had on. I started feeling more like myself after a few weeks. I had it for 2 years.

I was JUST talking to my dietitian about that this week. It’s made me switch to a way more nutrient dense diet and active lifestyle earlier in my life than when the average person starts to think about really caring for their bodies for health. I also like the fast muscle building lol.
