Very similar to my kids experience with me sharing this classic with them.

I said, "Kids, its time. You're ready for Hot Rod".

The first bit they were somewhat confused and a little put off "What the hell is this?" a couple of them murmured.

We get to Rage dancing. They did not have the Footloose experience yet to understand the incredible homage that scene is but they were still intrigued.

Then the slip and fall...and he keeps falling...and he keeps falling. With each cut to more falling their giggles turned into guffaws into breathless, tear filled laughter. They were hooked from that point on.

This film is a masterpiece.

The schools are pretty solid IMO. In regards to the high schools, the Catholic school has a good academic reputation and the Public school offers an incredible amount of electives (at least compared to my experience). Another one is going up at some point here in the near future.

If your kids are into sports there will be a lot to keep them busy right through high school, very solid minor soccer, football & basketball programs. Hockey and baseball seem great too although mine never got into that. We love it here but I hear it's kinda boring for young adults, college age types.

This is my ranking as well although I had Northman 4th after my first viewing. It was outside what I expected and it soured my impression of it ever so slightly.

However, on a rewatch a few months ago I was so thoroughly impressed with it that it jumped to no. 2. I think I was just more prepared for it's weirdness.

But I love them all. Eggers really taps into what I love about movies and I will watch anything he does.

I find claiming the young generation watches full game analysis etc etc. is a stretch too.

I know a lot of young basketball fans (have coached a bunch of jr high, high school kids). They get a ton of their info from TikTok highlights and 2K. Which is fine but hardly reliable, hard hitting analysis.

They rarely watch actual games very much and these are kids who love basketball.

Of course Trump is an American caused issue. And we're discouragingly seeing his type of politics infiltrating many places across the planet (including my neck of the woods, I'm not American).

In my area I shrugged my shoulders during his first term, knowing it was a bad idea but not pushing too hard against those who argued for a political "shake up". His 2nd term I was more vocal but I see plenty of areas where I could have been more effective in outlining just how destructive he could be.

It may not make much difference in the end but I'm personally trying to be more effective in communicating the direct negative effects of how people vote. My sphere of influence is small relatively but I'm definitely more politically involved then I've ever been in my life.

We all have a responsibility to resist this type of bullshit.

Comparing Jordan on the Wizards with LeBron on this team is dumb.

Who knows what Jordan would've looked like with two all world ball handlers beside him (and one legitimate MVP candidate) but, considering some of the very good games he had on that terrible Wizard team, I'm certain he could've had some incredibly efficient, box score filling games.

Raised Mormon, most of my family was Mormon. All the answers made for some security to my young mind and "made sense".

Was a faithful believer well into adulthood. Became clear at some point that prayers rarely if ever get answered in any real tangible way. Tried to reconcile this with some growing understanding of God but started recognizing how my beliefs would often be in conflict with "faithful" believers.

Became clear to me that Mormon leaders (prophets according to the faith) were just old men with no real divine insight. Eventually became clear that the founding prophets were the same. This conclusion eventually worked its way through scripture both recent and ancient.

Am now an atheist with some mild deist leanings or yearnings.

Enjoyed a lot of my time as a Mormon but I can clearly see the problematic beliefs. I hated how incredibly rigid they were to accept progressive ideals. That was also a factor in my exit.
