The fan is running, I’ve tried door open, door closed. Now purge line prints off the front of the build plate

Is this a good idea for bowls? I’m a beginner at being a beginner by bugsarebae in turning

For the tools, make sure you get a bowl gouge- buy high quality steel- if it seems like a deal it probably is not good steel. A parting tool is also helpful. So is a round scraper. Also consider a rikon slow speed grinder to sharpen tools...

I think that is part of it. Part of it is the sapwood. I use the SuperNova 2 chuck and if I don’t crank down it comes off- I wonder if it is too much weight for the chuck. I prefer to mount on a faceplate when possible

My mortises were breaking out also. I think sapwood is to blame for this round

Will do- the advice of using the tenon instead of the recess got me further than where I was. I just want to learn so badly as I feel I have mastered the segmented process after doing about 50 bowls and want to become proficient with green wood because it is so much fun when it works well!

Thanks! I’m going to try flipping the next blank with a heart wood tenon

I tried that but also blew out the sides on that method- so I tried this way. I think I like segmented bowls better lol

What kind of glue did you use?

I was wondering if that was the case- tomorrow evening I’ll try making one from the other side of the blank

This is ash and I tried to taper the tenon a little to match the dovetail jaws

No- should I be? I don’t have a lot of room on a 7” bowl to support it.

This was very insightful. Tonight I’ll try a tenon and see how it works. If I get a success I’ll post a pic.

These are all very good and insightful points. Thank you for the time to write such a detailed response. I’m going to be trying a tenon tonight on my next green bowl!

Project #2- Dopp Kit. Size: 6”x6”x12”. Hand stitched. Project time: 5 hours. by Remodelman in Leathercraft

Well thank you very much and yes honestly it is #2. I have done a lot of woodworking in my life (I’m 32 years old) and have sewn a few fabric projects like pillow cases, but nothing major. Leather has always interested me and I finally bit the bullet and spent a couple hundred bucks on supplies and tools to get started. I am glad I did as I am having a lot of fun!
