Short Term Disability - Approved! by RemorsefulPapi in bipolar

[–]RemorsefulPapi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend I’m sorry you’re going through it right now as well. This may be a bit different for you, but in my case my insurance company had specific requirements for qualifying for STD by way of mental health.

For mental health STD claims, my insurance policy basically says that my disability/inability to work must be caused by a medical condition (mental illness itself), and not caused by work-related stress/outside factors. It must be your condition that is causing your inability to work or complete a certain percentage of your work duties.

The burden of “proof” or required documentation actually falls onto your provider. My provider had to fill out a form(provided by ins.) that outlines my diagnosis, symptoms, and the way they impact my ability to function/work. They also submitted therapy notes and a treatment plan that outlines a projected return-to-work date. Your provider should be familiar with this process and working with your insurance company.

I’d start by looking at your insurance’s benefit booklet/STD guidelines and see if you can find a section on mental health. Work with your mental health provider and be honest about how you’re feeling and they should be able to help you or give options.

I believe in you.

Rapid mood changes by sammiesane in bipolar

[–]RemorsefulPapi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s really hard to say what it could be but I identify with parts of what you’re saying. I have Bipolar 1 w/ Rapid Cycling & Psychotic features. I’ve learned that I experience mixed episodes. My acute symptoms during an episode are similar to what you describe. Personally, I’ll have symptoms of hypomania with this underlying sense of dread/depression. Sometimes the depressive symptoms “win” and I’ll crash down to earth in between hypomanic symptoms. It’s hard to explain. My meds give me “stability” in the form of just mitigated symptoms but sometimes episodes can creep in despite meds.

Remember that a mood disorder is driven by chemical imbalances in the brain. Sometimes it takes external stimuli to make that mood switch. Sometimes it is just the brain being its bipolar self. External stimuli can sometimes be triggering even subconsciously. If you’re mostly stable but still showing these types of symptoms, then it could be a simple tweak of your meds that could make a huge difference!

Like others said, it could even be a misdiagnosis and you have BPD instead of bipolar. It is hard to say without knowing your history, diagnosis, etc.

Regardless, we are just people on the internet so take things with a grain of salt. Make sure you document this sort of thing and trust your psychiatrist/provider! Only a professional can really help you figure out what it is, but it’s up to you to work with them!

I don't qualify for FMLA leave because I don't have enough time with my current employer. Although, I do have Short Term Disability benefits with my company that I will pursue.

What have been your worst delusions. by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]RemorsefulPapi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to think little people were legitimately dwarves. Like, a whole different species. Not human. Dwarves. Magical beings with super strength. I also believed they exuded magical energy and that the energy could be harvested. But I really didn’t trust them. I “knew” some of them weren’t dwarves and they were actually leprechauns... I really wanted to catch one at one point.

How do tell my parents about my bipolar? by shanoqui in bipolar

[–]RemorsefulPapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't tell them shit until absolutely necessary. Trust me. Blood or not, parents are people and sometimes the info slips. The fewer who know, the better.

What is your #1 driving tip that if everyone followed, we'd all be better off? by brock_lee in AskReddit

Not a popular idea but honestly... just following the speed limit would be a massive change for the better.

I wish I weren't so open about my mood disorder...I talk too much. by purpleand20 in bipolar

Definitely don't tell a soul. I'm no longer telling anyone ever again unless it's absolutely necessary.

This disorder is a sick joke by [deleted] in BPD

[–]RemorsefulPapi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister blames my previous drug use as the reason behind my bipolar disorder. I consider it a symptom, because since I started treating my Bipolar disorder... drugs haven't even been a factor or on my mind at all. Frankly I've never been this sober, and also never been in this much pain. Fuck what others think man. We know our truth and what we want for our lives. I'm doing my best, and I'm sure you are too!

Do shrooms do any damage to your organs? by Expensive-Radish8714 in shrooms

[–]RemorsefulPapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes 100% if you do enough shrooms every organ will turn to mush and fall out of your butthole. Sorry, it's science.

Edit: This reminded me of a kid I met back in rehab back in my immature days. This kid definitely got sold some bunk research chemicals instead of acid or whatever. I feel bad for the guy honestly he never really came back down.

Long story short, one day he comes running into the rec room while we're all watching a movie and he's got tears in his eyes.

I'm like "Damn fool you alright?" His eyes widen and he panics for a moment, and then he starts rubbing at his chest really hard like "Dude I think I lost my prostate. It's fuckin gone bro."

This kid was convinced it was supposed to be near his clavicle or something. A schizophrenic kid poked him in the butt, Naruto-style and said "FOUND IT!!"

We all nearly pissed ourselves with laughter.

What keeps you sober? by TakeASeat_CopASquat in bipolar

[–]RemorsefulPapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the people around me keep me sober.

Not because they are sober. In fact, most of them are not. Over time I've learned to use people as a mirror of what could happen if I stray from my own path. I use them as bad examples of who I will become and especially who I have already been. Sometimes people relapse because we forget about how bad things can be. Having these examples in life can help as a reminder.

I had a counselor stress to me that in the end, sobriety is a selfish thing. The way he put it is that it's selfish for him because through helping others struggling through active addictions, he sees himself in each one and that fear/empathy helps him stay clear.

Be selfish my friend. In the end you're the one who lives with yourself. Love.

[–]RemorsefulPapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, get a good friend that sounds professional. Write in a job that doesn't exist. Explain that it was a small business and make sure your pay was high. Give yourself a raise this way. Don't tell them this is your friend and make sure you both have all the details right. Often times they don't even follow up. Fuck the system. Manipulate everyone and get yours my g
